There's a lot of talk about the New York Jets, and a lot of expectations. Can the Jets live up to they hype? Will Mark Sanchez improve in his 2nd season? Will LT find his running legs? Can guys like Kris Jenkins stay healthy? And finally, when will Darrelle Revis show up? It should be interesting.

not trying to troll you, but I think the Jets are about the most overrated team going into the upcoming season (although obviously you have to be rated to even qualify to be overrated)

first of all, if the Colts don't pussy out, the Jets don't even make the playoffs

second off, I don't think Sanchez completed a pass longer than 30 yards in the playoffs (iirc)...and during the regular season i think he had 3-4 games where he threw 4 or more interceptions...the definition of a game manager...he isn't going to win anybody any games, how many will he lose?

losing Jones is going to hurt...no idea why they wouldn't keep him instead of going after a broken down LT...Greene is good but is he that good?

needless to say, i dont buy all the hype...their defense is certainly great, but their offense has too many question marks for me to buy into the Super Bowl hype...they should finish with a record above .500 but i dont know how much better...sadly I think the Pats reclaim that division this year, although I hope Cotchery and friends proves me wrong

Tree, I agree with a few things you said, disagree with others, so don't worry about it. I will say it was only 13-10 (or 17-13) when the Colts sat their guys in that game. Plus, they had to win the next week, and did so quite easily. Sanchez was a rookie last year, and he did cost them a few times. But, that's what rookies do. Peyton Manning had 28 interceptions his rookie year, so I wouldn't exactly look at that stat. If it keeps up this year, and next, then I'll agree with you more. I know he had an 80 yard pass against Indy in the AFC Championship. I'd have to go back and look for any others. I do think getting Santonio Holmes will definitely help, though he won't be available until week 5. Hopefully Brad Smith will get a lot of playing time as well.

As for Thomas Jones, I'm a little mixed on that. I think Shonn Greene is really good, but he won't reach his full potential for another year or 2. LT looks to be an option out of the backfield in the receiving game, and I think that will really help the offense. Jones only had 10 catches for 58 yards last season. Will all that make up for Jones? I don't know the answer to that. But from what I saw in the playoffs last season, I think Greene would have had the majority of the carries this year even if Jones was there. I'm hopeful, which is rare with this team. We'll see what happens.

I hope they do well, they're probably my 2nd favorite AFC team behind San Diego, I'm just cautious of the SB hype. And if what you say about LT is true, they're basically gonna use him like Leon. Ok, that works. But if they use LT like Leon, they're using Shonn like TJ. Who is Shonn's "Shonn" going to be?

I don't think it will be like Leon, but my point with him was that he'll give them more of a receiving threat out of the backfield, unlike Jones, who wasn't. I think LT has a role similar, but not exactly like Greene last year (like I said, he'll get more opportunities in the open field), with McKnight being more like Leon Washington. I liked having Leon out there, and I think losing him could be something that could hurt them. I do like San Diego as well (Rivers obviously).

I drafted Shonn Greene in my fantasy league and really wanted to see him play last night, so I was pissed/worried when he got benched and LT ran with the first team offense. But then I looked at the numbers and Greene had a decent night, while LT was average at best. I heard that the Jets carried the ball over 600 times last season (six hundred!) thats like 75 more than the 2nd place team, so if they come close to that, Greene could be in for 350-400 carries, and the other 200-250 would go to LT and McKnight. Crazy stat

Quote :
"After more than seven months of negotiations and a 36-day long contract holdout, the Jets have agreed to terms with All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis, the team announced.

Terms of the contract were not immediately available.

The Jets open the season against the Ravens a week from today, so the signing came just in the nick of time.

Solid win over the Pats today. I'm glad they let Sanchez throw a little; I thought they were way too conservative last week. Hopefully this is the offense we'll see throughout the season, with the potential of improving even more when Santonio is able to play. Up next is Miami. We'll see if Revis is good to go. The Jets looked good when he wasn't in there, not allowing a point in the 2nd half against Brady.

Not the greatest defensive game, but we'll take a good road win over a division rival. Sanchez looks like he's starting to get it. Up next Buffalo. After this next game, Santonio is eligible to play again.

Eh, longterm defense will be fine. Pace is playing this week and Revis will be back after Buffalo...

Best thing I've seen is that Sanchez is looking great. Not good, but great. 6 TDs and 0 INTs the last two weeks. He looks comfortable and in two weeks we add another elite weapon for him in Holmes -- plus he and Keller really have a chemistry working.

Oh and LDT looks 26 again...

It wasn't far off what I expected defensively. I do agree that they'll be good to go. I just wish Kris Jenkins could stay healthy for once, though the run defense has been solid. The only thing that concerns me at times is that the overload blitz on 3rd down gets to be predictable at times. Offensively, things are looking good. The thing that frustrated me the most about week 1 is that I didn't think they gave Sanchez a chance to move the ball down the field. Now that they've opened up the playbook a little bit, he's starting to produce. His decision making has come a long way from the middle of last season. Getting Holmes back should be a win-win. It's another target, and that can help open up the running game.

I know it was Buffalo, but that was still damn impressive. Tomlinson is looking better and better each week, and also helped the fantasy team today. Santonio makes his debut this week against Minnesota, in the Monday night game.

It wasn't the greatest game ever played, but it was still a win over a solid team. I will admit I was worried after that garbage right before the 2 minute warning. Thankfully the defense stepped up at the end. Up next is a trip out west, and a matchup with the Broncos.

Revis wasn't close to 100% and they are saying he is questionable for next week. Frankly, I'd rather take a loss (not that we would lose with Revis, but you know what I mean) and use the bye week to give him two weeks to get his hammy straight and have him 100% the rest of the season...

Vikings are going to improve A LOT. Harvin moving back to the slot full-time with Moss (and Rice eventually) makes them very dangerous.

Also, was it me or did Brett Favre look like a little kid out there.

fuck yeah about time I saw this thread.

lastnight i had 52 heartattacks but a W is a W.

LT is a goddamn beast - BY FAR that most amazing offseason pickup.
Cromartie is definitely a close second

Holmes....you still have a lot to prove to me man.

Give Holmes a little time. Once he gets a game or 2 under his belt, he should be fine. I'm thinking the only reason Revis played was to go against Moss again. However, Cromartie stayed on him. I agree that it's probably best for Revis to have an extra week off. Since he is signed, it would be nice to have him healthy for the rest of the season. And yeah, that Vikings offense will be tough to handle when all the pieces come together. Just having that extra piece in Moss will be huge for them.

Well, we'll take 5-1 heading into the bye week. It came down to the last minute, but the Jets pulled one out in Denver. I wish they wouldn't wait until the last minute to win like they have the last 2 weeks. But, all that matters is that they get the win. Hopefully Revis can rest the hamstring issue taken care of, and can get back to the Revis we're used to seeing. I'm glad to see he wants to play, but sometimes it's best to have an extra week to rest. But, we'll see what things look like in 2 weeks when they play the Packers.

Best team in the NFL? Only 5-1 team (Steelers are 4-1) and have played a brutal schedule already (Baltimore, New England, Minnesota, @ Denver, @ Miami). One more tough game out of the bye against Green Bay and then we get Cleveland/Detroit. I'm starting to lose the horrible SOFJ thoughts I still have weekly.

Revis needs to get healthy so hopefully this bye week helps him get to 100%. The pass defense actually wasn't too bad today. Orton was 14-34 and had a 74 QB rating. A lot of the long completed passes were unlucky, especially against Revis. Much better defensive secondary showing today, no doubt.

Love that the won in a tough place to play on the road with Sanchez having an off day. Especially love everything about the locker room "speeches" I saw after the game on SNY...

This article cracks me up for many reasons. I like Lupica, but how can any rational person claim that a Jets/Giants Super Bowl would be bigger in that city than the Subway Series was. What makes it even stranger is that the article is littered with baseball references.

Anyway, I would actually hate this. Giants fans are every bit as obnoxious as to Jets fans as Yankees fans are to Mets fans. Fuck them. I hope they lose out.

Also, who are the Packers fans on here? I know Ernie and Quinn are so I guess my Fuck You just goes to them for now.

Even though it was the Lions, I think this comeback will be big for the Jets from here on. Sanchez seemed to thrive in the 2 minute offense. Perhaps they'll use that a little more throughout the game. Hopefully the Jets won't suffer the same fate the Pats did yesterday when they head to Cleveland.

By the way, for the Packers fans, congrats on last week, as well as the ass kicking you put on Dallas last night. I didn't get a chance to get on here, but have to give them some credit for last week.

3 catches for 17 yards against "an average corner?" Those look like the stats of a slouch. Nice job T.O. For once, the Jets didn't wait until the final seconds to win a game. Up next, New England on MNF.

I still don't think the jets are very good

At least this game they acctually outplayed the team they beat, but they didn't outplay them by 16 points. They still relied on luck for the most part to beat a crappy team.

Yeah, I'm worried about the time off. Both losses have come after having an extended break (10 days after preseason, and after the bye week), so I am a little concerned. Losing Jim Leonhard also hurts. But hopefully guys like Brodney Pool will step up in his absence.
