The seque....errrr prequel to BioShock has been annouced.

Only this time the city is in the sky.

It's 1912.

It looks (so far) like it has no connection at all to the first two games.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/debut-trailer-bioshock-infinite/702794

http://kotaku.com/5614097/it-would-be-dishonest-to-say-this-is-not-bioshock

This is being developed by the same guys who did BS1..........fyi

I saw the trailer a couple days ago and liked it. I figured it did have a connection though, Andrew Ryan's attempt to create a utopia when he still believed in American capitalism or whatever.

[Edited on August 16, 2010 at 7:24 PM. Reason : But if it's in the 1910's I guess he would be way too young for that.]

Same exact premise except it's a floating city instead of an aquatic one. Time to switch up the formula guys...

Infinite BioShocks... when one was enough.

At least they're changing the scenery this time.

I'm sure this will be better than Bioshock 2,
but it will have a hard time meeting/beating the level of Bioshock 1.

I think an underwater city gives you a much richer environment than a flying one. It's deeper and darker (literally and figuratively).

Here's an interview with Ken Levine

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/08/13/the-bioshock-infinite-ken-levine-interview/

I'm really sort of excited about this. I know we've seen little other than a trailer, but I love the burst of color immediately following his trip out the window. It'll be interesting to see how they try to create tension in daylight and bright colors.

I just bought BS2 at Sam's for $25 the other day. When I finally got some time to play it, I saw the trailer pop up for Infinite. Looks pretty cool.

Finished Bioshock 1 last night. Awesome experience, but seemed very short, and I really explored everything. System Shock 2 was twice as long.

^^ probably somehow has some sort of variations or precursors to plasmids from bioshock 1 and 2. other than the birds i can't think of any abilities he used that didn't look similar. and i guess the birds were even kind of like the swarm of bees too.

^^ They're called Vigors in this game and they're like limited use tonics that you find and drink along the way. No more mana-bar, but each vigor you ingest comes with a set amount of charges...the more powerful the Vigor the fewer the charges.

And I think that is actual gameplay.

^Try BS1, and I'll think you'll have a good sense of what to expect though BS2 was the one to introduced the combination plasmid/gun firing. BS1 only let you use one or the other at a time.

Hadn't paid attention to this game at all until I saw IGN give it the Best of E3 award and watched some of the e3 vids.

I can't believe that's actual gameplay and not just pre-rendered cutscenes. This game will be amazing.

How the hell are you supposed to know which of those rails you need to be riding on to get where you want to go? It looks fun but difficult to navigate.

I think it'd be obvious based on which ones are closest. Probably can't maneuver enough to reach ones farther away.

Quote :
"BioShock Infinite is gonna hurt you like it's 1999. Developer Irrational Games announced this morning the "1999 Mode" for the upcoming RPG slash FPS, which appears to go beyond just messing with health stats for a more challenging game experience.

"I'm an old school gamer. We wanted to make sure we were taking into account the play styles of gamers like me," said Irrational's creative director Ken Levine. "So we went straight to the horse's mouth by asking them, on our website, a series of questions about how they play our games."

Levine continued, "94.6 percent of respondents indicated that upgrade choices enhanced their BioShock gameplay experience; however, 56.8 percent indicated that being required to make permanent decisions about their character would have made the game even better."

The 1999 Mode will apparently include unnamed tweaks and features that won't exist in the standard BioSchock Infinite experience. It will also "feature demanding weapon, power, and health management," along with a "Game Over" screen if the player lacks the resources for a respawn. The company is unlikely to cover incidental damages to property caused by playing 1999 Mode."

This might be fun for the hardcore FPS players

I wonder what the filming/photographing enemies mechanic will be in this iteration. I hated that in the other games. Film, get attacked, get hammered while you fumble around trying to change over to a weapon.

I'm glad they delayed it. In the words of Miyamoto: "A delayed game is eventually released, but a bad game is bad forever". Doesn't change the likelihood that it MIGHT suck but seeing as it is developed by the team who did BS1 I am fairly confident the game is in good hands and will be that much better due to the delay.
