I like them. People make fun of Christian bands (moreso than they would other bands of similar musical quality) but I enjoy them anyway.

I'll be the combo breaker, as I like this show as well.

Did you watch Death Note?

no, i havent seen any of the death note stuff.
i just started watching bleach a year or so ago.

i've been trying to watch the sub/dubs on youtube. some pretty bad ass story lines coming up especially with a arc focusing around the zanpakutou in the future (it seems)

i used to be watching a lot of these episodes when they came out but there was too much filler after the invasion of soul society (not sure if thats what it is called in the dubbed episodes).

where are they at in the episodes now?

Definitely start watching Death Note. All the episodes are on Hulu (with subtitles).

I was reading the manga online when the site (I forget what it's called, but it was a MAJOR repository for mangas) got shut down. If the anime sticks real close to that arc, this show is gonna get plenty goddamn awesome.

Subs suck.

I don't want to have to read it while I watch.

And just because Japanese voice actors yell more and do the shocked stuttering inhale thing doesn't mean they are better.

Starts off strong, degrades, degrades, degrades, plummets.

Once you start getting into episodes with 20+ distinct characters then it can really just fuck off.

i really don't like admitting that i watch japanese cartoons, but there's really no other way to watch them..

Death Note
Code Geass
Bleach

the first two are only a season or two long each, bleach goes on forever.. dattebayo.com has eps like 50-274

Just watch episodes 1 through 64 subbed, and then continue the story with the manga.

^It depends on how the series author or series directors want to grow and develop the show. The different story arcs in Bleach follow the same set formula, so while the characters and situations are different, you really don't see anything new.

Soul Society Arc: Rukia gets captured, Ichigo and his friends go into Soul Society to rescue her, Ichigo fights successfully stronger and stronger opponents and gets stronger and stronger each time until he succeeds and discovers the "real" threat.

Hueco Mundo Arc: Inoue gets captured, Ichigo and his friends go into Hueco Mundo to rescue her, Ichigo fights successfully stronger and stronger opponents and gets stronger and stronger each time until he succeeds and discovers the "real" threat.

The manga has been in the Hueco Mundo arc since 2005, and they have been currently fighting what appears to be the final battle for the past year or two. Battle and conflict are fun, but if there isn't enough charecter development, it gets old really really fast.

Now, I like the show 'One Piece' a lot, which has 450+ episodes. Each arc is quite different from the next, and once a formula for the show starts to appear, the author shakes things up and changes things.

^^ a la naruto style

you see all the same stuff between naruto, bleach, and one piece.

someone is captured and thrown into a prison and needs to be rescued:

bleach - soul society arc
one piece - zoro, robin, ace (if you include thriller bark this includes just about everyone)

they fight someone too strong and are given time to get stronger:

naruto - before jump to shippuden
one piece - alabasta arc, impel down arc, current two year skip
bleach - the whole fucking series

main characters "dying" in battle only to revive by some loophole that the writers have been waiting undoubted years to use:

naruto - battle with sasuke
bleach - battle with ulquorra (fuck spelling that name)
one piece - battle with magellan (not quite a "kill" but essentially left for dead with a short time table)

love interest who inevitably gets ignored by the main character:

naruto - hinata
one piece - boa hancock
bleach - inoue

and undoubtedly main others you can compare

I watched one episode of Naruto. It was 10 minutes of inner monologue and 15 minutes of flashback. I swore I'd never watch another.

if it was dubbed into english i'm sure you also heard "BELIEVE IT!" a ton too.

i tried watching some of the episodes when they did the 100th episode marathon on cartoon network but it was too unbearable

I watched the first 135 episodes of Naruto in 2004 - 2005. There were multiple moments where I wasn't sure how the protagonists were going to survive, and I was legitimately scared that they wouldn't make it. I thought the battles were brilliantly scripted, and the character development paced just right, plus the general increase in the characters' power was generally believable.

Then the next 90 to 100 episodes were filler. I tried to watch the episodes, and stopped because they were some of the worst television I've ever seen. Afterwards, Naruto Shippuden started and I thought the series was back to it's old self, but the pacing was agonizingly slow. Very dramatic moments were ruined because of how slow scenes took. Now I've been done watching Naruto since 2008, and I'll finish the story in the manga.

Speaking of filler in an anime, anyone watched DBZ Kai? It's actually watchable now, they have cut out all the filler.

they can cut it all out cause the series is over.

filler is only introduced when they want to give the writers enough of a headstart in the story to start an arc

^ fillers are introduced so that the anime does not catch up to the manga.

the manga is the story line for the anime.

I missed last week's episode, but I had been following the manga, so I figured I didn't miss much.

I tuned in just now and....wtf? What the hell happened to the Hueco Mundo arc? When they last left off, Ichigo and that jaguar arrancar dude were beating the shit out of each other. Now everybody's back in school? Did I miss something?

^Really really bad filler. Just look for an episode guide and figure out where to jump back in. Thats only if you are following the subs, though. If you are watching English dubbed, it will be a while.

In naruto they literally killed nearly everyone, only to break out the super-slug jitsu. No one can successfully die in that series!

Watched all 366 episodes in a month.

Overall a pretty good anime.

Ending was satisfying. I felt the story ended on a good note as I wasn't disappointed in the story line or left feeling that certain things were unexplained.
