I'm retiring my old reliable desktop computer, at long last.

Since you guys are essentially it's godfathers, I thought it common courtesy to let y'all know it's last day is upon us.
'twas this here forum that walked me through the build (taught me all I know about computers) that birthed this rugged old thing, and I'm still grateful.

still remember the motherboard serial: A7M-266D. Asus server board with Dual AMD +1700XP processors, one gig of pc2100 ram. Finicky as fucking HELL. Lots of patches and goathorning and a solid week of hair pulling was needed to get it up and going right, but once it got going, it was unstoppable and complete 100%bullet-proof reliable.

I've had it nearly TEN YEARS and its finally hit a wall I can't overcome with simple upgrades. I feel like I'm losing an old friend

Ten years is a damn good run though.

will be back with a SWEET system my brother gave me last week. looking forward to that

Thanks for the memories, lols, rofls, Ahahaexahas, napster, timehats, frags, vespene gas shortages and pornography!

...but it's the dawning of a new age and you just don't know it yet.

I mean, who doesn't need a media server?

I've still got my first PC from 1991. It's never had a virus, runs great. I still type letters on it occasionally just to hear the keyboard click. Unfortunately it won't play mp3's...not enough processor.

I'd really like to find my old Timex, but it's MIA.

I ran a Windows 2000 box as my main system for 7 years. At the end it was overheating so badly I had to keep a window fan on it all the time.

What was the final straw for yours?

Same thing happened to me.

"No honey, I have this $50 gift card, so in the end it's only a $10 purchase for the game!"

...

...one week and $1500 later...
