i need a free mp4 to dvd converter, or even converting it to avi/wmv
the freeware ones i've gotten online seem to either be very slow or plagued with viruses.

^^ i agree...i'm not sure WHY they make it nearly impossible to find the download...a simple google search always brings up the softpedia download page, though:
