Ok, so I am trying to find a new monitor for my computer. Have an old 19 inch LCD, works fine but its out of date and even the on button is having an issue.

I want something that works well with my system so I have been looking at the monitors.
So far, I have determined that I am looking for a 22-24" LCD or LCD with LED backlit. 2ms response time, atleast 50000:1 contrast ratio, and 1080p.

Anyone have any notes about new monitors and things to be aware of before I buy one.
Also, I am running a VGA line from the monitor to a DVI adapter for my video card. One of the side notes I have is whether I need the HDMI, VGA, or DVI plugs. I am pretty sure my motherboard has an HDMI slot but shouldnt i be running the line to the monitor from the video card?
Finally, is there much of a difference when running a VGA line like I am but an adapter onto the video card for the DVI?

anything helps. Brand names I am looking at, ASUS, ACER, LG, or samsung.

I like Samsung when it comes to lcd or led monitors. Also consider a small TV. You might spend a bit more but you will get the best of both worlds.

And about your connections VGA is the lowest quality of video signal from the selection you have. Even if you have the adapter it is still low. Look at your mobo and see if you have hdmi or dvi. If you don't buy a dedicated graphics card and use that. There is no point in you spending money on features like 1080p and a good response time if you can't take advantage of it.

Most new monitors come with at least a vga cable, and sometimes a dvi cable. HDMI really won't give you much using a monitor because most monitors don't have audio.

I just bought a 21.5" Samsung LED, the BX2250

I went with Samsung because their monitors come with a 3 year warranty, LG's only come with one.

I've had it a few weeks and am very pleased.

Get a Samsung or ASUS monitor with DVI. Use a DVI-DVI cable. Profit.

yea, i have a 250 GT video card and it has the DVI connections in the back of that. MOBO doesnt have hdmi. I would def make sure i have a monitor with a DVI connection and with a cord.

Is the native and aspect ratios a big thing to worry about?

im pretty sure I am going with samsung or asus with 2ms and 1080p. LCD with led backlighting or LED monitor.
