No, i think the election is going to suprise many people, polls are already tightening and we still got 52 days, I saw one that 2 weeks ago had the GOP 10 points ahead, now it is tied. Of course the Dems will loose seats, but not enough this time around to loose the majority, maybe have 10-15 seat majority in the House and 5 or 6 in the Senate. Even if they do somehow get the majority, it will be by a handful of votes and the Dems will just do like the GOP did....and then blame the GOP as the "do nothing" party for the next two years....actually, it might be better for Obama for the House to go GOP so he can blame them for the next 2 years on why nothing is being done.

this is entirely possible. Both parties are almost universally loathed by their opponents, by their old base and by the middle. The most emphatic argument I've heard for a Republican this cycle has been little more than a case against Democrats and warning against the perils of splitting votes with a third party.

At the moment, the general opinion towards the civlilian leadership in this nation is scraping noisily along the bottom of the barrel. The only government entity with any public backing is the military, which is something to think about . . .


That being said, this is a mid-term and polls count for far less than energy. Like it or not, ALL the energy in this election is on the right.

There is a simple one step process for answering that question:

1) Is he a Politician?

If the answer is yes, then he is, in fact, a grade-a douche. If the answer is no, he may still be but further examination is required to determine douce or non-douche status.

The real problem we have is Congress, and the "let's get something passed, whatever it may be" mentality. Then we get a "bill" that is actually a thousand laws rolled into one. Most representatives that vote for the bill may not agree every individual law or statute, but as long as they get their "bacon" (i.e. something to crow about when re-election comes around), that's all that matters. This is just a terrible, shameful way of legislating.

The issue has never been that Congress can't pass enough legislation. They pass too much legislation, most of which goes unnoticed, precisely because of the omnibus legislation that I just mentioned. When we look at the debacles of the past decade, it was not because a President was out of line, it was because Congress was derelict in its duties and handed the Executive branch more power than it was intended to have.

The magic number for a majority is 218.

NYT gives Solid/Lean Dem 191, Solid/Lean GOP 202, and 42 toss ups
NBC gives Solid/Lean Dem 202, Solid/Lean GOP 188, and 45 toss ups (Dems rely heavily on leans, GOP is solids)
538 projects the Dem 203.1, projects the GOP 231.9 (although 1 race is listed as a complete toss up)

I think it'll be a little closer to even than 538 is projecting, but that Boehner will be speaker.

Although there is still once chance, even if the GOP wins, that they don't pick him to represent them... but that might be more unlikely than the GOP not winning the house.

thank God Obama already passed a lot of what he was trying to do before the election. The biggest thing I can think of that didn't get passed was DADT which was wildly popular with the people so if the republicans block that they'll look like huge douchenozzles (exactly what the Democrats wanted to happen). But the Repubs won't be able to repeal anything without the Senate and they're not going to propose anything new so everyone better get ready for the biggest lame duck Congress in the history of the country.

I've been thinking about this as well and I have come to a similar conclusion. I think he is either going to eliminate it now in a lame duck session, especially given the favorable returns from military families, or wait until after January and then challenge the Repubs to vote against it. Calculated and political but it may be brilliant if executed correctly.
