Missed out on the leak, but I would think the official drop for this has to be soon. Guardians and Logan already have trailers out and they're supposedly premiering after this.

^in general, I am too. Looks like they are combining and simplifying a lot of things, which I don't love, but understand it is necessary to appeal to the wide audience. I got some good chills getting to hear Roland do more of the gunslinger oath.

Was that the hotel from the shining in the pic on the therapist dudes desk?

I caught that too and I think it is, thanks for validating my instinct there.

Actually...it'd be great if that guy was Dr Torrence.

I think it's OK, it makes me uneasy in some ways that are hard to articulate. Maybe my desires aren't realistic in 2017, but it looks too much like a Marvel/Superhero movie, everything looks too clean and expensive. Wanted this to look more like a western. I love Elba but he doesn't seem grizzled/old/beaten down enough. McConaughey does NOT seem right for that role, but he was better than expected in True Detective so...

Also, again prob not realistic for a movie addressed to non-fans, but seems like there will be a ton of spoken exposition, which usually doesn't make for a great movie.

i'm pumped. gonna be different than the novels but that was a given. I just hope the rest of the books are done and we get the full journey in a well-done fashion.

Gonna be sad if we don't eventually get Eddie, Susannah, Pere Callahan, Andy the Robot(Many other functions), the witch lady(The audiobook of Wizard and Glass is ridiculously good. The narrator nails all the characters, especially her). It will be hard to include everything, but if they are committed to telling the story an get enough success perhaps we can get the entire journey along with the major players from the books.

Either way, I am just glad it is getting done.

^at one point they were talking about doing wizard and glass as a tie in tv series, with a different actor to play young Roland, which I think could be done well.

Stephen King's horror has traditionally fared poor when adopted for the big screen. His short story dramas/light supernatural stuff has done really well. I mean we can thank King for Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Dolores Claiborne, etc. Since the Dark Tower series is a mix of fantasy and drama, I'm being cautiously optimistic.

The depth of the story worries me though. They would need at least 10 feature length movies to accurately portray the story as written in the books. Maybe if they are going to do Wizard and Glass as a TV series, that will help, but that is most readers favorite book in the series.

King made a tweet earlier and now people are taking it to mean that this really isn't an adaptation of the series, rather it is more like a 9th book, picking up where the 8th left off.

Read some of the comments, or other tweets - I don't do twitter so I don't know what you call the responses below King's tweet. Some of them take his tweet to mean that this movie doesn't necessarily follow the original series of books.

That trailer is pretty worrying.

They seem to be changing parts of Roland's character for no reason.

It just comes off as the people in charge trying to make the content palatable to the masses instead of staying anywhere true of the original content.

That last head shot with Elba reciting the lesson was the tits though.

*** SPOILER ****

I remember him tweeting that Roland had the horn of eld. Which means it 100% happens after the original 7 books. Did he go back on that?

^No, that's part of the problem.

Also, there have been a few people who have picked apart the trailer and found the horn sticking out of Roland's bag.

Apparently this movie is 95 minutes. The gunslinger is short, but man. Btw that and the last trailer, I'm worried this will be a really generic action movie.

I've always been a little worried it could be too action movie-y, and admittedly the shortness of this movie is concerning. I can hope that it's pretty solid and serves as a good basis for more movies. I'll still be out there opening weekend.

Yeah, that length does seem surprisingly short, and is a little worrying. Also i don't think the marketing has been great, especially considering it's out in 2.5 weeks.

New trailer (not really much different than the previous ones, but with a little new footage and some cast/king interview clips cut into it). It was just released within the last 24 hours by Sony, and the craziest thing, that you can see at the very end of the video, is that apparently the film still doesn't have a rating yet. That seems insane for a movie being released in 2 weeks.

Ugh man in black catching a bullet behind his head

The Dark Tower world is basically my favorite thing and I'm not at all excited about this movie.

Low expectations should be easy to beat I guess?

Article has some insight to the short running time and poor marketing. Things definitely are not looking great, but I'm holding onto a little hope that it won't be completely terrible. In gonna check it out either way.

It's a real turd, and has virtually no resemblance to the books.

HEAVY SPOILER-LADEN SYNOPSIS AHEAD FOR THOSE WHO HAVE READ THE BOOKS

Roland hates the Man in Black because he killed his father. Jake finds the portal to Mid-World in the house in Brooklyn and hangs around Roland. Walter lives at the Devar Toi where some mismash of the breakers and the kids stolen by the wolves are put into a chair that shoots lasers at the tower. Walter kidnaps Jake and puts him in the laser chair, Roland portals to the Devar Toi, and kills Walter by ricocheting two bullets off of each other. Jake and Roland become BFFs and return to Mid-World.

I didn't hate it. Elba was great for what was given to him, and I'd look forward to seeing more of him as Roland.

The story didn't feel right at all, almost like they were trying to rehash the majority of the book plotlines all into one movie. Much too Hollywood-y.

I hope it does well enough to get that TV series up on some legs, I'd love to see young Roland and his crew. I also wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to this movie, though where they could go from here is questionable.

saw it last night and was not very impressed. it felt so distant from the books i love that i had a hard time letting go and enjoying the movie for what it is. the seemingly randomness with which they made huge changes to characters and the story was a bit absurd.

Terrible

Went in with low expectations and they were not met

This reminds me of i, robot. If you're gonna change that much, just call it something else.

Beyond that though, it was a convoluted mess
Wouldn't be surprised if How Did This Get Made or some other bad movie podcast focused on it. I thought the goal was to make it understandable for non Tower fans but I was lost for half the movie.

I would have turned it off halfway if it wasn't Tower

It really was bad.

One of the worse parts was the house portal guardian. And the portals in general. And really, all of it.

Yeah, pretty much all of it. With regards to the house demon, the worst was when Jake killed it. Neither I nor anyone I was with actually realized what the fuck was happening, or that when everything stopped moving it was because of something Jake actually did. It’s not until later when man in Black shows up later that you realize it was a house demon and Jake somehow shined it to death.
