I know nobody is watching game 1 on ABC due to FIBA and the NFL but it has been very entertaining, good basketball. Its great to see pro ball in Seattle with a full arena of loud fans. Nate Robinson is the biggest fan courtside doing the stanky leg.

The rest of the games will be every other day on espn2.

Does anyone think Atlanta has a chance?????

Storm in 5 is my official prediction. If they were healthy, they would've won last year. Lauren Jackson is the Dirk of the WNBA and its a lot of fun to watch the biggest player on the court move without the ball as if she were JJ Redick.

[Edited on September 12, 2010 at 4:48 PM. Reason : atlantas just happy to be here. i wonder if their fans will bring the same college atmosphere]

You know, your statements might have enough credibility to argue if you actually watched the games but I believe you haven't watched a bit and are simply making your opinion up based on your sexist fantasy dream world.

I'm with Mamba. You know, there are actually some people that may prefer the WNBA over the NFL. I've got a two tv system going, so its all gravy for me.

no, i've watched some WNBA, just to see how it is. and it's fucking awful. There's nothing that those "women" do that I cant. I watch pro sports to see people do things that I cant. (see: run 4.4 40's, make amazing one-handed catches, score amazing goals in hockey, DUNK, etc...)

I like "good fundamentals" as much as the next guy, but the WNBA sucks. HARD.

You obviously can't compete against your sex at the highest level and these women can. If you are great at basketball, good for you but 99% of Americans cannot do the things these women can. Unless you were good enough to make an impact in high level high school mens basketball, I doubt you could even make a wnba team.

Who cares about competing at their sexes highest level? Should I watch the special olympics b/c that's the physically challenged highest level? NO.

I bet that right now, as out of shape as I am, that I could beat at least 10% of womens college bball players in a 1-on-1 game.

It's just not interesting, I tried to like it. They can shoot, dribble, juke, dodge, jump, hop with the best of them but its still missing something.

The biggest reasons I can't take the WNBA seriously:

1.) They are not profitable. They haven't been and they still have to give tons of tickets away. It looked like this was soon to change but then the economy went into the crapper. Or at least, that's the excuse.

2.) The small ball. The ball is smaller than a regular basketball. Since so much of the game is below the rim this was introduced to increase the scoring. Think about what the games would be like if this wasn't the case.

I think I could, but only because they were college bball stars and I assume they are in the WNBA:

Diana Turasi (sp?)
Chamique Holdsclaw
Lauren Jackson
Sue Bird still playing?
Lisa Leslie still playing?
Alana Beard (Duke I believe)
Ivory Latta
Rashad McCants sister maybe?

Fuck...that's all I know, I figured I could name more than that...and I don't even know if those are in the league.

i think shelden williams is married to a wnba player, but she is better in her league than he is in his league, so her career takes priority if she gets traded somewhere lol

wnba is more watched than every american sport except nfl, nba, mlb, ncaafootball, ncaahoops, nascar, nhl, and afl.

In that order.

Basically wnba is more popular than mls, golf, tennis and everything else i didn't mention.

I'm not being sexist, I'm being honest. Female basketball players < male basketball players. That's a FACT.

I think she'll be okay, but Atlanta's in BIG trouble if she can't stay out of foul trouble again

regardless, I think the Storm will cruise... they're too good for Atl if they just go through Jackson the entire time

I dont think you're allowed to use the phrase "every american sport except" and then reel off 19,000 sports.

If they made the goals for women like 7.5 feet or 8 feet so they could dunk and have it be entertaining, WNBA might not be AS bad. Still not great, but an 8 foot goal would solve lots of problems

You're not a real basketball fan if dunks are all you find entertaining. Dunks are entertaining but too much dunking is the problem with the nba. The physical ability has become too great that its impossible to defend many players at all. The very things you ostracize the wnba for lacking are cancerous to the quality of the game in the nba.
