Luckily TV ads are expensive, and buying one that hurts your campaign is a serious drain of resources.

Some out of state money has been pouring heavily lately in this race, and against Heath Shuler in the western part of the state.

Early this month 538 was projecting Elmers has a 95% chance of losing this race, now they say she is most likely to win with a 57% chance of winning.

Its still close enough to go either way. But that's a massive come back.

I like to laugh at candidates like this normally.

Now it looks like there is gonna be a congressional freshman class full of Elmers's, Angles and Joe Millers.

I feel like if I had jumped in with the Tea Party when it started. and said enough crazy on TV and up on stage, I could end up as a congressman. You couldn't come up with a more ridiculous group of misfits and idiots if you tried.

Its okay. The more experienced members like Joe "You Lie" Wilson, Michele "Moonbat" Bachmann, Randy "Baby Killer" Neugebauer, John "Pass Out Lobbyist Checks on the House Floor" Boehner, Richard "Big Oil" Burr, and of course Virginia Foxx will keep them in line.

Why is it that being a Harry Ried, Nancy Pelosi, or Alan Grayson on the left makes you likely to lose an election or at least lose your position of power, but being out there on the right doesn't so much?

No. The ad tells the literal truth. Muslims did conquer those places and built Mosques by either destroying Christian shrines/churches (Jerusalem) or converting churches (Constantinople) into Mosques. It's a fear mongering ad for sure... but a at least it teaches some history.

Don't Christians historically also build churches over former holy sites for other religions after they take over the land?

Also, how is this issue even remotely relevant to the 2nd district? Given all the other more pressing issues that directly affect them, do the people of Raleigh, Garner, or Lillington really feel that they will be making their congressional voting decisions on the misleading rhetoric about victory muslim community centers in another state?

Obama isn't particularly unpopular. Congress is historically unpopular, however.

I think you are over stating the sway and pull the tea party actually has against Democrats.

In a lot of races that Republicans should have won, the tea party will end up handing those seats to the Democrats.

but my point is Obama is highly unpopular with conservatives and (along with Pelosi) is one of the prime motivators for the opposition turnout. And conservatives generally tend to identify with Teabaggers, at least in principle, even if they dont support some of the more batshit candidates like O'Donnell and Miller.

whereas on the other side, many democrats are sitting home saying "meh" because the leadership has been less than inspired.

Independents are flocking to the right in record numbers. Those independents don't hate Obama, but they hate the Democrat leadership in congress.

We are seeing anti-incumbent fervor, plain and simple. Trying to paint this midterm sweep as a racist backlash against Obama is highly misleading.

but with the additional caveat that social conservatives are motivated by their outrage that we have a Black Islamic Terrorist, a Woman Socialist, and a Biden in the top 3 leadership positions of this country. it's conservative anger for having lost the election to Obama-the-islamic-terrorist-who-was-born-in-Kenya, combined with general disgust with the supposed socialist policies of the wicked witch Nancy Pelosi.

yeah, that's just not true.

left-leaning independents along with democrats are staying home in large numbers, whereas the "Angry Right" are flocking to the polls. Democrats and democratic-leaning independents are simple not motivated by what is percieved to be uninspired leadership and failed promises.

the independents who ARE voting are the independents who would have been inclined to vote for the right, anyhow. so it nicely fits into the right's self-narrative to claim that independents are "flocking"

but this is an exact repeat of 1994.

By many accounts it may have also been repeated in 2002 (in the reverse direction), had we not had our brand-new war on to rally the nation around the Commander in Chief. Though not necessarily, because Democrats are naturally more fractured than the the Republicans who typical maintain a lockstep in their party. which is why the minority Repub party continues to dominate the majority Dems so often: the Republican party machine is homogeneous and well-disciplined.
