after season nine (which wasn't 100% solid like three through eight), there are approximately 1.5 seasons' worth of good episodes spread out over the next 11 years

Last season was half-way decent. I was hoping they'd keep that going. 9/27/2010 7:10:38 AM |

The Simpsons used to be my favorite show. Now it is like visiting an elderly relative in the nursing home. It is sad for all involved and everyone is just wanting a resolution. When you lead off with a Lisa episode, you know the sseason is prolly gonna suck. 9/27/2010 10:36:54 AM |

was a great show until season 14, after that it's been a slow decline. 9/27/2010 10:57:10 AM |

I don't remember this episode being bad.
But then again I don't remember what this episode was about, so that's never a good sign.
EDIT: Oh yeah, krusty's crimes against humanity and lisa's art camp. Not terrible, better than anything on CBS at least.

Survivor The Amazing Race Big Brother Little People, Big World The Jersey Shore The Real World The Real Word Whatever the Fuck Challenge Teen Mom Made that show about loggers Last Comic Standing Airport Eddie Izzard's Marathon Show
I would rather watch any of these than an average new Simpsons episode

Seriously?
Jesus those are basically all awful. Way worse than any Simpsons episode I've ever seen. 9/28/2010 1:52:50 AM |

^Agreed. I'd rather watch the worst episode of the The Simpsons ever made than the best episode of Jersey Shore. 9/28/2010 8:30:04 AM |

Seriously.
the worst of the shows I listed still have more comedy, albeit largely unintentional, than these painfully predictable Simpsons episodes. the best of those shows offer something the Simpsons would never be able to, actual human drama. furthermore, "awful" shows like the Jersey Shore can inspire impassioned social and cultural commentary, whereas the present-day Simpsons inspires nothing, except maybe nostalgia. 9/28/2010 10:52:54 AM |

Wait, so that's why people watch Jersey Shore? For the social commentary it inspires?9/28/2010 2:33:04 PM |
screentest All American 1955 Posts user info edit post |
no. they mostly watch to hate on people.
but the commentary can be part of the fun. at least for blowhard fucks like me.
and I'm not trying to suggest that the Jersey Shore or any other show of that ilk has huge cultural value, just saying its better than the current stale, played-out Simpsons episodes.

they've warped Lisa from a sympathetic character into kind of a pompous bitch this episode seemed to be about taking her down a notch
compare this to 'Round Springfield' (Season 6 Episode 22), the Bleeding Gums Murphy episode, and you'll see what I mean
the writers have done a lot to make the characters LESS complex lately check out Flanders' political conservatism 9/29/2010 5:08:01 AM |
