FYI: State vs. VT will not be on ESPN3

by the way why do you need it to work when Verizon/terps12345/terps1234 works perfectly fine

1. when it tells you you don't have a good ISP, you click the drop down box and say you have a Verizon account, a link will pop up asking you to login to your verizon surround account or something, and you type in the above info.

2. ???

3. profit

fyi, i used that login most of last year to watch our bball team in a non-acc market. but i was just wondering when i could use espn3 legitimately since it's been ~1 month since TWC and disney/espn/abc reached their new deal which supposedly includes ESPN3 access. i haven't been able to find any actual dates for when access will be granted anywhere.

Haha, yeah that is bad memory. I remember using that for the game at Maryland during Wilson's freshman year. Can't believe that login still works. They game may have been the first time the password was "discovered."

twc is broadcasting the unc-ecu game on channel 520 from the espn3 feed. i would guess they'll do the same for other non-televised games of local teams until espn3 is officially available online.

Posted this in tech talk a few weeks ago:

http://www.twcableuntangled.com/2010/09/espn3-we-have-a-deal-but-its-going-to-take-time-to-implement/

TWC blog post, ESPN3 is probably still a long, long way away, and it won't be available to RR-only customers

"Here’s the deal — Time Warner Cable is really, really excited to use the Internet to enhance the video packages that our customers buy from us. ESPN3 allows us to do just that. Because we see ESPN3 as an extension of our video product, we are making its available to all of our customers who subscribe to ESPN, instead of tying it to customers’ broadband subscriptions. ESPN360 will not be available to RoadRunner only customers."

Haha, ignoring the fact he called it ESPN360... this is such bullshit. They're trying to act like since its streaming video, then it should be part of their "video (read cable) package".

And all their crap further down about how hard it is to do "authenticated video" makes me .

I could be wrong, but if there wasnt this crap about not being available to internet only subscribers, then adding ESPN3 to TWC would be a very simple matter?

In regards to the ECU-Cheater game being available on TWC, this should happen anytime a local team plays on ESPN3...the purpose of ESPN3 should be to provide access to out-of-market games, not to be the only source of watching your local team play. ESPN really should consider making these broadcasts available to local stations in each teams' market to air on a subchannel. More money for ESPN, more people watching subchannels (because theres no reason to watch now)...sounds like a win for everyone.

I recently chose roadrunner when I moved into a new place in large part b/c they announced the ESPN3 deal. I guess when I move in 6 months I'll be looking at Direct TV.

normally this is the point where i would talk shit about not figuring out how to use the login

but i just tried it myself and can't get it to work -- i've used it for the past few months no problem (since world cup). is this user error, some browser fuckup, or did they finally shut terps12345 down?

You can also find someone who is on the acceptable list and tie your espn account to that ISP and just go 'remote' for however long it takes before you time out. Rinse/Repeat.

I've had suddenlink since they started offering 360 and only recently had to do this so I'm not sure of the specifics. I just checked though and I'm still able to access it on an unapproved link. I bet I can activate at least a couple accounts per IP.

Its actually a pretty smart move business wise. A lot of TW customers have no idea that other companies are giving access w/ just an internet connection. So, if they want it, now they have to add internet to their package and have no idea they are getting pwned once again by TW.

How much of the month and a half delay in pushing ESPN3 out was due to TWC working out how to restrict access to roadrunner subscribers that don't subscribe to video? I'm guessing most of it since the technical side of just giving subscriber access to all internet subscribers is pretty easy/straightforward and already done by other subscribers.

Another poor customer-relations move by TWC. At the very least they could have pushed out ESPN3 to everyone (considering both college football and EPL/European Football are already underway), dubbing it a "free preview" or whatever they want to call it until they figured out how to restrict the non-video subscribers.
