Just getting this thread warmed up for tomorrow night.

IGN gave it a whooping 9.5

http://www.ign.com/videos/2010/10/01/nba-2k11-video-review

i watched someone play the game on JTV that got it early in New York, and it was really mind blowing. Just watch that review by IGN.

Joystiq gave it 4.5 stars

NBA 2K11 review: Long live His Airness

As with any well-rounded basketball team, NBA 2K11's success hinges on collaboration. It's a pretty corny analogy, but it's the truth: a combination of realistic gameplay, improved ball handling techniques and challenging AI go a long way toward making NBA 2K11 the best basketball game around. Lack of quality competition probably doesn't hurt, either.
NBA 2K11 (8/17/10)

Veterans of the series will immediately feel at home. A simplified two-button scheme allows you to employ expert strategy on the fly, calling picks, setting up alley-oops and pulling off quick-step back moves to drain threes like a pro. It's a control system that rewards those who spend the time to learn its nuances -- such as IsoMotion Dribbling and the enhanced ShotStick Controls.

IsoMotion lets players size up a defender or chain together hesitation maneuvers to crossovers and such by combining the left trigger with the left analog stick -- for example, holding in the left trigger and spinning the left analog stick in a full circle from ball hand to opposite side executes a behind the back move. It's an easy system to grasp, but a hard one to master and execute, especially when on-the-court action heats up.

As the name implies, the ShotStick gives greater control over any attempt on the basket. Let's say you've got a clogged lane and you're going up for a lay-up. If you've got the ball in your right hand and move the right analog stick to the right, you can roll the ball to the outside, away from the defender. It's a simple, incredibly effective addition that ensures you're never stuck in canned animations and miss out on potential points.

The biggest selling point this year is the Jordan Challenge mode, which lets you replay 10 of Jumpman 23's most memorable games. 2K Games picked really good match-ups here, but despite how thrilling they were to see in real-life and subsequently play here in the game, they're also damn tough. Newcomers who came specifically for this Jordan content will find the overbearing CPU frustrating. A save system eases the tension some, but it's still a tough prospect when the CPU is picking off your passes and dropping points on you left and right.

If you're not schooled in the hooping ways, well, then you're probably going to get schooled yourself -- and that doesn't just go for the Jordan mode.

At times, the CPU players seem to be clairvoyant, especially in their uncanny ability to pick off passes they have no business nabbing -- unless they have eyes in the back of their head. But at least the defense is really aware, predicting planned driving lanes and making it a lot tougher to succeed in executing a close game attack.

But this is all getting away from the important thing: There isn't a better modern basketball game on the market and even brushing the lack of competition aside, NBA 2K11 shows an incredible amount of polish and attention to what makes this genre work. It's about ease of play execution, realistic physics and resistance in the paint. NBA 2K11 offers all of this and for schooled ballers, it's an unparalleled game.

Michael Jordan once said, "I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying." If you're new to the game, expect to fail quite a bit -- but the ends justify the means. You'll not only grow as a player of the game, but as an appreciator of the sport. In the end I'm betting you'll, like me, come to realize NBA 2K11 is the truest adaptation of the sport available."

maybe i just expect too much, but i didnt really find anything amazing about the video/review

the ball doesn't even look like it goes through the hoop on some of the shots, and it seems like they will never get a ball in a palm to look natural

i mean im probably gonna get it, but i just dont know what is causing the hype, besides jordan's involvement

It just brings you right in right to the action. Pretty much throws you right to the wolves, especially if you are a noob lol. The Bull's mascot is hilarious BTW.

The commentators actually talked about a Bobcats name change. They were saying how the Flight would be a good name(I like that too)....and were talking about the Arena nickname could be the hanger, the court could be the runway...etc. etc.

NBA2k10 was the first basketball game I bought in a long time and I didn't like it at all. Controls were too complex, game just wasn't fun. I'll wait for NBA Jam.

This was one of the original name choices for the Bobcats. I remember the choice was between that and some other gay stuff, then Bob Johnson just chose the Bobcats out of nowhere it seemed. Either way, that's pretty cool that they mentioned it in the game.

I'm still debating whether I wanna get this for 360 or PC. (I travel ALOT)

He chose Bobcats because of Bob's Cats.

And the other option was Dragons.

2K commentary is the shit

And I'm basing that off the two 2K games I've played, NFL 2K5 and MLB 2K10

The controls are complex but I am determined to get good at it.

As far as the PC version goes, I played it on Onlive and the controls with a Xbox 360 controller works perfectly. You should sign up for a free account and try it out. Its a 30 min demo of the full game and you can play as many times as you would like.

Yeah I know that but I remember there being a vote online somewhere and I don't remember Bobcats being one of the options in that vote but I could be wrong. That's what I meant by out of nowhere.

the 3 options were Flight, Dragons and Bobcats...I think there was a fan vote, but yeah he went with Bobcats

fun fact about George Shinn:

as much as I hate Shinn, he did us a great service before we got the Hornets...the original name of the Hornets was going to be the Charlotte Spirit...pretty gay right...so Shinn stepped in and took the old WFL football team named the Charlotte Hornets and the rest is history

This game is great but I'm neglecting others. I haven't mounted in awhile, I bought Dead Rising 2 a couple weeks ago and haven't put more than a couple hours into it, and I'm still addicted to Madden.

I had this back in the day on PC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakers_versus_Celtics_and_the_NBA_Playoffs

I used to wreck shop with the Sonics...Dale Ellis was money from the arc, Olden Polynice and Alton Lister were solid bigs...Eddie Johnson was nice...Nate McMillan at starting PG with Sedelle Threatt backing him up...Michael Cage at the starting 4 with Xavier McDaniel backing him up...and a young buck named Avery Johnson coming off the bench for some garbage minutes...Bernie Bickerstaff was the head coach (or was it KC Jones)

i had something on Genesis ... it might have been LAL vs BOS but it could have been Bulls vs Blazers. i think it was the former though. i do know it was ONLY the teams in the playoffs, so not every team was in the game lol

jordan could do a 360 in it if you hit it from the correct angle
