IT BEGINS

Both games on VS

Schedule: http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/schedule.htm
TV: 65 games on FSN, all in glorious HD, and 2 more games on VS.

New Faces

Jeff Skinner. #53 5'10" 193lbs. 1st round pick this year. Not the fastest skater, but crafty and has a damn good shot. Scored 70 goals in the OHL last year. Predicted by some "experts" as a top Calder candidate.

Patrick O'Sullivan. #8 5'11" 190lbs. Now that his dad is safely stowed away in Canada, all is well. Signed for table scraps, he's had a solid preseason and could figure into a top 6 role.

Zac Dalpe. #22 6'1" 195lbs. Dude's a goal scorer. Put up 45 points in 39 games at Ohio State, then 5 more points in his first 8 AHL games.

Anton Babchuk. #33 6'5" 212lbs. Babchuk want return a canes. JR made it so. Time to set up us the bomb.

Bobby Sanguinetti. #24 6'3" 190lbs. Acquired from the Rags on draft day, he's an offensive defenseman who will either get pushed to the press box or the AHL by perennial suckfest, Jay Harrison.

Notable Losses

Rod Brind'Amour has carried on the tradition of players taking new gigs in the organEYEzation as he's now the director of forwards development.

Ray Whitney. Sorry, puck bunnies, time to find someone new to go apeshit for. Thanks for not waving your NTC last year.

New Alternate Captains: Tim Gleason and Brandon Sutter

HURRI-CHECKERS

Our AHL affiliate is now in-state, so take your happy asses down to see a pretty well stocked team

MOTHER FUCKIN ALL-STAR GAME

SO PUMPED

also, I must share what Flanagan posted last night:

Quote :
"The Night Before Hockey Season
Twas the night before hockey season and all thru the house, not a creature was checking Not even Darcy freaking Tucker

The hockey socks were hung By the chimney with care, in hopes that in 100 or so games, Lord Stanley would be there

The rookies were tucked All snug in their bunks, all hoping to avoid The "Erik Cole falls down" funk

With Mo in his kerchief and Ron in his cap, They we chastised by Barraso for dressing so slack

When out on the ice there arose such a clatter, The Caniacs awoke, it was hockey that mattered

Away to arena, I flew like a flash, I had games to tailgate, and an opposing goalie to trash

The zamboni had cleared the new fallen snow, And the boys took the ice, oh so far below

When what to my wondering eyes should appear, Staal as the Captain for this brand new year

Corvo is back, and Skinner is slick, I knew at that moment this year could be sick (the good kind of sick)

More rapid than Buffalo to free Labatts they came, as the coach yelled out and called them by name

Now Sanguinetti and McBain and Skinner and Dalpe, Go out there and win so the Caniacs dont doubt me

Get the puck deep and get it off the wall, Now shoot the puck, shot the puck, and fear Anton all

A bunch of old players this team does lack, Including Rod the bod now in the stands looking mack

This team had a twinkle and it made the fans merry, If the defense performs, this group could be scary

With his droll little mouth chewing gum on go, We all support this team, sometimes in spite of our Mo

The edge of my nails I bit with my teeth, Getting off to a good start would be such a relief

I know that I am not concerned by myself, I see Puck It too hand wringing, LGC's little elf

With Mo laying a finger at the side of his nose, on the ice came Staal, Cole and LaRose

They sprang into stride, and Capt Eric give a whistle, Pass from Cole, deke from Rosey, and then an Joni missel

We win our first two games, and then jump on a flight, Merry Hockey-mas you Caniacs, and to all, a good night!"

wooooooooooooo, pumped a shit for this season. Heres to hoping we get off to a good start this year and dont dig ourselves an early season hole that we spend all season digging ourselves out of. I really like the mix of old and new players we have, hopefully Sutter will take the next step forward and become one of our top contributors this season.

anyone have any news on Samsonov? I know he's on IR, but I'm not sure how the IR system works in the NHL. Is it like the NFL where you are out for the whole season, or is it like a more extensive version of the disabled list where he can come back once he's healthy?

so is he looking to come back in 15 games? 30? 60? I know his injury looked bad initially, I just havent heard anything at all about his timeline for a return. Everyone just keeps saying that he isnt travelling with the team to Europe, but thats it

also

Projected first line: LW Jussi Jokinen, C Eric Staal, RW Tuomo Ruutu

Projected second line: LW Erik Cole, C Brandon Sutter, RW Chad LaRose

Projected third line: LW Sergei Samsonov, C Patrick O’Sullivan, RW Patrick Dwyer

Projected fourth line: LW Zach Boychuk, C Jeff Skinner, RW Tom Kostopoulos

per: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=ArK9jTJccOz3a2Y4k1pT.HNivLYF?slug=teamreports-2010-nhl-car

I really hope Boychuk, Skinner and O'Sullivan play well this year. They are all capable of being solid players and possible future stars, they just have to gorw up fast and be consistent night in and night out (I'm looking at you Boychuk)

Those lines look close, but didn't Boychuk get sent down to Charlotte? In any case, he'll be back this season (I hope). I sure hope they put Jussi back on a line with Staal instead of making him 3rd line center. Sully looked good in the preseason so he should be cool at 3rd line.

I just want us to get back to the RBC with at least a .500 record. This first road trip is going to be important.

Boychuk has already been shipped off to Charlotte, so that lineup is crap.

Here's a more realistic look: http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/depthchart.htm?dcid=12

Personally, I think the lines are garbage. The only positive I can find in it is that we must be rolling 4 "scoring" (used very loosely) lines instead of having a true 4th line.

And Harrison on defense instead of Carson, Sanguinetti, an 8 year old, a parking cone, etc is always a horrible choice. That Babchuk/Harrison pair will be on the ice for a couple of Wild goals today, more than likely.

I dunno if espn is way off or what, but the Hurricanes website has much different lines listed:

Offense:

Line 1: LW Chad LaRose C Eric Staal RW Erik Cole

Line 2: LW Jeff Skinner C Jussi Jokinen RW Tuomo Ruutu

Line 3: LW Drayson Bowman C Brandon Sutter RW Patrick Dwyer

Line 4: LW Pat O'Sullivan C Zac Dalpe RW Tom Kostopoulos

Jiri Tlusty and Sergie Samsonov reserves

Defense:

LD Joni Pitkanen RD Joe Corvo

LD Tim Gleason RD Jamie McBain

LD Jay Harrison RD Anton Babchuk

LD Brett Carson RD Bobby Sanguinetti

Goalkeepers: Cam Ward Jason Peters

Zack Boychuk isnt listed on the Hurricanes roster according to the website

Carson, Sanguinetti, and Tlusty are healthy scratches for today.

I personally am looking for the 53/36/15 line to do damage today.

IT'S JAY HARRISON TIME.

Those lines are kind of shit but who knows what could happen. Bowman/Sutter/Dwyer is clearly designed to be a shut down checking line. And now I'm off the Internet until I watch the game on the DVR at 4:30.
