I don't think I ever got six together at the arcade. Probably 4 maximum. It still would have probably taken ~$10 to get to magneto but it was money well spent.

this game used to be money

then i played it again a few years ago and realized that every time you use a super power, your health decreases

and it's impossible to beat bosses without your special powers

the game lost some of its charm then for me

tmnt, sfII, mk--theoretically, at least, you could beat those games on a single credit

this is fucking awesome news

there is no telling how much money i spent as a kid at the roller skating rink playing this game. multiple occasions of rolling up with some friends and 10$ in quarters.

never noticed though that super powers took some of your health. now everything starts to make sense...

NBA Jam arcade console used to bum all your quarters by letting you only play one half before adding more.

My favorite arcade game memory was when the YMCA console of Marvel vs. Capcom was rigged so you could play unlimited games w/o quarters. Good times; Long lines.

all the oldschool arcades had simpsons and xmen arcade games. Xmen had the special powers, which made the gameplay a little different. Simpsons was just like the ninja turtles arcade game.

The thing about the Simpsons arcade game is that it was made so early in the show's life (2nd to 3rd season IIRC). Playing it now would be weird because it'd be missing so many classic characters.

Other than the bosses it seems like having 6 players would make the game a cake walk. Of course nothing will stop the must-pay-two-dollars-to-advance bosses. Do they make any attempt to scale the difficulty to the number of players?

I liked the X-men game, but put the Spider-man game ahead of the Simpsons game. The original TMNT was also ahead of the Simpsons for me.

Edit: I've never seen the Spider-man game with all 4 players going. Maybe that's the scaled difficulty in having 6 players on the X-men game... confusion due to the clutter.

Edit2: I like how the person playing Hawkeye hides out while the others take the risks.

My friend has an arcade cabinet and has metal slug (don't remember which one) for it. We spent an evening beating the game once.

That would have cost us like $30 each if it had been at an arcade.

Yeah, I also have Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, and Metal Slug X for my MVS. Long before I bought them, I do recall beating X once in the arcade for close to $10. Those games are absurdly expensive to beat, but so much fun when you're not feeding quarters.

This is excellent news. I also second bringing The Simpsons to XBLA.

Two other worthy candidates that need to appear:
