what? money they make isnt ridiculous, it is just ridiculous that atheletes and actors are worth that much in our society. athletes and actors absolutely deserve the money that make, in most cases. they fuel an extremely lucrative business.

I totally agree. I think a lot of people are overpaid, but good for them. As long as its not my money going to them people will get paid whatever someone else thinks they are worth.

However, the govt/ins severely limits how much doctors get paid. Being the only heart surgereon Im sure he would be making the league min if he could name his own price.

I have no problem with surgeons making a lot of money. They easily accrue over $200k in college debt just to get the education needed to practice. And they work for peanuts while they're in internships and residency. AND surgeons are more likely to be sued almost any other professional.

The hours are crazy, the stress is through the roof and you have to be on your A game at all times.

Have you ever watched an open heart surgery, from start to finish? I think anyone who is in surgery for hours upon hours performing a task that very few people have the skill to complete deserves a large amount of pay. Some surgeries could take over 12 hours. If he's the top surgeon in the hospital and is therefore going to be performing most of the surgeries, I don't see what the big deal is. I'm sure you wouldn't care about how much money he made if you ended up on his table and he saved your life.

i've had surgery that involved the same incision & access that heart surgery requires (cutting the ribcage apart), and a gland that lies on top the heart was removed...and i'd gladly let UNC pay that man a shit ton more than that.

Ludicrous? Jesus christ. At least this guy does something positive for society.

Take for example investment banker salaries and bonuses. They get paid millions for fucking over (and yes, you can take the alternate view that investors should have been more knowledgeable about what they were buying but Goldman Sachs just paid out $500 billion for fucking over investors) investors when they sell complex financial products to investors. What's the value of this? I think we're all seeing how much that is worth.

Now, I don't think there should be salary caps on anyone but at least the doctor is saving people's lives and relatively, he doesn't even get paid that much.
