Anyone ever try it? Thinking about doing that plus showing my id and hopefully getting my corner suite upgraded to at least one on the top floors with a good view at Aria. 10/14/2010 8:02:51 PM |

absolutely no problem with trying it though. 10/14/2010 8:31:25 PM |

I have no idea what this thread is about... these are the only $20 tricks I know of (through email forwards)

Quote : | "The twenty dollar bill trick is sweeping the travel industry and becoming extremely popular, especially in Las Vegas. When you check into a hotel you simply slip the front desk clerk a $20 bill with your credit card, while asking "Do you have any complimentary upgrades available?". The general rule of thumb is that the front desk clerk will check for upgrades and if they cannot find anything they will return the $20 tip, making it risk free!" |

i was going to try this last fall at the mirage. instead i just asked for a premium view tower room (or whatever they called it) before i handed her my credit card. 20 seconds later she says yes sir and we're up on the 25th floor having a cocktail while watching the lights on the strip come on. had she said no, i might have slipped the $20 in. 10/14/2010 9:42:04 PM |

For my labor day trip they asked if I had any special requests for my room and so i typed in "If the room is going to smell like cheese when we check in we'd certainly prefer it to smell like muenster cheese as opposed to bleu or monterey jack. However, given the choice we'd prefer it not smell like any cheese at all."
I thought some back office computer jockey would read it and laugh.
Well we get to the Venetian me and my best friend from high school and we get to the front desk and this unreal hot girl motions us over. This is my first time booking a luxury suite in vegas and im actually a little nervous because this girl is hot as fuck and im dead sober yet exhausted from gambling/flight/etc for the past 15 hours before checkin.
And she goes so i see you have a special request? should i read this out loud to see if its still applicable? And then alternating between reading and laughing her nutsac off proceeds to read the whole thing word for word. My buddy is in complete "what the fuck is she talking about mode" standing there as he's just flown in 30 minutes ago.
Anyway im like damn this is going well so as she hands me the contract to sign i go into my "yes, i like what you've done here, yes.... yes..." you know straight from Waynes world when he's looking at the contract benjamin presents them to buy the show for $5,000. This is just the dumb shit i do to amuse myself.
Well this girl is only like 25 but somehow immediately picks up on it and launches into the "what am i going to do with a gun rack" shtick from waynes world and says thats like my favorite movie.
At this point honestly im in over my head. Ive only slept with 1-2 girls who are as hot as this girl and theres not a chance either could recite a scene from waynes world, pick up on an obscure reference to waynes world, or would laugh at that muenster cheese special request.
I walked away in pure dismay while my buddy gave me the "what in the fuck just happened" talk all the way to the elevator.
Weird story, im still reeling 2 months later. 10/14/2010 10:09:19 PM |

A $20?
With the amount of money swinging around the Aria, there's no way a $20 will get you anything but laughed at. 10/21/2010 1:16:15 AM |

^Seriously? A ton of money goes through that place. It's the newest hotel on the strip and I guarantee you there's a lot of people going in there tipping a lot to get a nice room. I go out there twice a year and I've talked to some of the people working it. They much prefer working there than they do at Monte Carlo or one of the other MGM hotels because of the tips they get. 10/22/2010 10:12:44 PM |

If you tip 100 bucks for a room upgrade.... that is generally the price of paying for the upgrade....
does not compute. 20 bucks is the standard, 40 if really desperate 10/22/2010 10:33:09 PM |

I don't know how much they're tipping but the last 2 people that I've had with Monte Carlo and NYNY rotated back and forth and said that they usually made 25-50% more a night at Aria than at Monte Carlo (25%) & NYNY (50%). Maybe they weren't the usual case or the tips were for other stuff instead of upgrades. I'm going back out in 2 weeks so if I see the same guy, I'll ask him.
Also, for a week's stay, you're looking at $300-600 for an upgrade at Aria. Personally, I don't think $20 is going to do much on that unless they know you or are just feeling really generous. 10/23/2010 12:43:58 AM |

Well, if you are bringing your wife or girl, just put on the special request that you are on your honeymoon. Be prepared to answer happily that you were married the previous weekend, blah blah blah.
Got a $350 a night upgrade to a residential suite at the Ritz Carlton in Hawaii, and a nice bottle of Champagne at the Four Seasons.
Of course, if you are bringing a dude, I guess it could still work if you have zero shame 10/25/2010 3:51:25 PM |

Pretty good info on where it works and where it doesn't. (though in my experience it works everywhere depending on when you are out there.) 10/25/2010 10:02:29 PM |

Has anyone ever tried this with comped rooms? I'm heading back out Monday and wonder if its worth a shot since I'm not paying. 10/25/2010 10:19:36 PM |

Yes, it works on compd rooms. Was just there 2 weeks ago, worked at Bally's. Although she only got a $10 for a deluxe room, $20 if it had been a suite.
