Saw it last night... I really liked the first one, but this one was pretty terrible. I don't regret wasting the 90 minutes, but the acting and story-line were appalling. 10/24/2010 3:11:17 AM |

^ wow. I would say that about the first one - and it was def not worth the 90 mins. No way I am paying to see this one. 10/24/2010 9:38:31 AM |

Never saw the first one, but it and this one looks like another generic jump scare movie.
Whatever happened to actual horror? 10/24/2010 11:34:19 AM |

everyone i've talked to who hated the first one saw it on dvd instead of in the theater. i think the movie works SO much better on a big screen in a completely dark audience than on a tv with all the distractions of home 10/24/2010 1:52:29 PM |

^I watched it in the theater and it still sucked. Was thinking about going to see this one, but will probably pass as it looks just like the first one. I do need to find a good scary movie to watch Sunday night. Might just rent one at watch at the house instead. 10/24/2010 3:06:02 PM |

^^ The scariest movie I've seen in recent times is Sam Raimi's 'Drag me to hell.' I understand that it has the campy component, but it was still scary as shit. The timing was perfect.
I was also much more impressed by 'The Crazies' than I was expecting to be. 10/24/2010 3:38:03 PM |

people are more than welcome to not like the first Paranormal Activity
but if you think it was "generic jumpy scare tactics", or that there was anything even remotely in the genre of "it's scary because it was unexpected and sudden!" then you shouldn't be watching horror movies, petition for Die Hard 5 because you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
...on that note, second one was trying way too hard. Creepy if its a horror genre you're into, but lacks a lot of what mad the first one scary. 10/24/2010 8:49:35 PM |

^In all fairness, I haven't seen the first one. Please convince me that it isn't just a bunch of jump scares. 10/24/2010 10:22:47 PM |

I actually liked this one better than the first one. Seeing it in the theatre with other people and watching the reactions is half the fun. I'd recommend this over another Jason or Freddie movie anyday. The acting was pretty bad and I didnt like the dad character. I was glad when he got his neck jacked! 10/24/2010 10:42:32 PM |

^agreed, watched the first one on DVD at my friends house, and the surround sound and reaction of the people around you in the theatre make it a much better experience 10/24/2010 11:09:39 PM |

^ yeh, that's what i've been telling people who thought the first PA was lame. imagine seeing the first one the day it came out when no one had any idea what the fuck to expect. people were shitting their pants. one dude literally ran out of the theater screaming like a little girl halfway through the movie. it was awesome.
^^ yeh, the dude who played the dad was such a terrible actor. 10/25/2010 1:26:57 AM |

^it's a movie that, if you know what happens, it doesn't really do a lot for you when you watch it. I mean as much as people say it's not scary at all, I was one of the people on the first night in one of the 12 test theatres (Southpoint was one) and I've never seen people act like that. A row of guys left after they shit their pants screaming about OH GOD THE FUCK IS GOING ON for the first thirty minutes. I went with 7 guys and not a single one of them thought it wasn't the scariest shit they ever saw.
...it's entirely psychological. It's a slow-burn that has almost not REAL scare factor to it, and nothing is unexpected or sudden. It was the little nuances that were so scary, and what it made you think of after the movie when you got home. Shit. Girlfriend slept with me for like four nights after that for fear of being alone in her apartment.
...but yea back to the completely different sequel. 10/25/2010 1:49:38 AM |

I enjoyed both movies. I liked the second one right up until the ending. It felt way to rushed. If you didn't like the first one, you won't like the second one. These type of movies are the only ones that feel scary to me. If you don't believe in ghosts/deamons then it probably won't do anything for you. But since I do, and these movies pretty much leave everything to your imagination, it makes for a great scare. Every other horror movie can't get over the "reveal" of the ghost/scary entity. Once they show it to you, it stops being scary. The unknown is far more scary. At least in my opinion.

I don't think it's a bunch of jump scares. Although there are a couple. But there is no "monster" or ghost to see so there is no catching a glimpse of it in a mirror when someone turns around to make you jump either. The overall ominous feeling slowly builds as it gets stronger and keeps the "oh shit" factor going for quite a little while towards the end.
Also, I felt the scenes leading up to and in the basement were far better than the ending.

Maybe I just missed it - but where was the scene where the baby was sitting in the middle of the road?? I coulda sworn that was in the previews...
Yeah, ending was a lil wtf.. I liked how they tied in the first movie, but I didn't realize they were doing it until right near the end. Guess I'm stupid. 10/29/2010 12:06:38 AM |

^ There were a couple of scenes from the trailer that weren't in the movie. Maybe deleted scenes? Happens quite often. They tend to make the previews before final editing of the movie.
Or they could have just purposefully filmed those for the trailer that way all the "scares" weren't ruined. 10/29/2010 1:59:00 AM |

Just saw it last night. It annoyed me how little they looked at the camera footage. You'd think that the first time there was that loud bang that the maid heard, she'd be like "Hey yo you think I'm crazy check the video tapes." The dog was barking at something in the babies room so that should have made them at least suspicious. Then that shit when the daughter got locked out and she was watching the video, did she not think to check any of the other footage? I'd think that if they saw the baby float out of it's bed and run around the house they would have taken it more seriously and at least call a priest or something. 11/5/2010 12:58:06 PM |

Just saw this via red box, I thoroughly enjoyed it. A lot better than what I was expecting. The demon scene in the kitchen was exceptionally well done 2/16/2011 8:10:33 PM |
