I sold my M twat in order to focus on cooler things and have also decided that I don't like new cars. Been looking at some 914's, 240/260/280's, 1602/2002's (and the occasional e28 535i, or e21). Find me something to buy. While my budget seems to be hgher than what most of these go for - find me a car under 5 grand. I've been on craigslist for days searching raleigh/charlotte/wilmington/greensboro and there are a couple options, but I havent been too impressed. That bright green 914 is cool, but its fucking bright green.
Get to work. 11/2/2010 3:15:28 AM |

e28 M5! I don't think anything cooler exists from the 80s. Also, pass on a 914 unless it's rust free, which, let's face it, none of them are. 11/2/2010 3:22:37 AM |

That 914 is actually dark blue, and i test drove it yesterday.
I think the transmission might be on the way out. It has a very low tolerance for anything other than the slowest and smoothest of shifting. The front trunk floor also has rusted out completely and was repaired with a fucking stop sign that was screwed down with self tapping screws. 11/2/2010 12:21:39 PM |

P1800s look better than 99% of cars on the road but no one thinks beautiful when they hear volvo so they are dirt cheap.
Put an rb motor or other turbo inline 6 in this thing and you'd have one awesome car.

One advantage of being old. I used to have a p1800 ES station wagen. Fun car to drive, however, the british components were crap. Went through many many speedometer cables. Used to drive it by the tach. 11/10/2010 2:16:38 PM |

P1800s are sweet looking cars.

bright green is a great color on a Porsche!
also, have you ever seen that really sweet 914 with the Chevy V8 swap? I think it was an LS1, but I won't swear to that. Really sharp car...it was on eBay a while back.
also, in my opinion, if you're going to swap engines in anything, the only thing to even consider it LSx. The only exception is if you're staying in the same family and it's an easy swap.11/10/2010 3:01:46 PM |

Never heard of the p1800's before. Look a lot like a karmann ghia, although those certainly could not be considered a sports car. 11/10/2010 6:51:33 PM |

^^^For the 914, the WRX/STi drivetrain is also another option... Can't go wrong with either IMO.

the original 240z was the best of all the 70's zcars IMO. the only 914 that was fast was the 914/6. the volvo p1800 was a great car. (Roger Moore as "The Saint") I had a chance to drive all of the above back in the day. Z was the best, 914 was uncomfortable, the 1800 had the shortest gear change throw and I always seemed to bang my knuckles on the dash upshifting to 3rd.
I've owned and loved 2 mgb's and a spitfire. not fast, but fun.
god, there were so many. but probably too rare or expensive to find now.
