This needs its own thread. We knew when he came here that the play calling was going to be wtf. We need someone that can adjust to what the defense is doing and quit calling dive plays when they haven't worked all day and delayed handoffs on 3rd and 14. We can't have an offense where the best player is sitting in a pocket that the line can't hold.

We demand better.

I agree to a degree, but the most egregious call the entire game was all on TOB. I might understand it if we had a punter who was pinning them deep all game long but he didn't come close to doing that on three other punts... Just awful call.

I wish we'd throw ridiculous sums of money at Norm Chow and Reggie Herring to get them both back. I think Herring will be on the market this year, but Norm Chow probably prefers the west coast.

^^ One of the punts was sitting on the 1 yardline and the team failed to down it. With 6 guys surrounding it so that is incorrect

How in the world does the #1 scoring offense in the ACC only put up 13 points? Our O-line looked like bull fighters out there. No push or protection whatsoever, which is totally opposite to what we saw against FSU. One of the ugliest and most disappointing games in many years.

They couldn't run up the middle. So what. That is expected. Clemson has NFL players on their DL.

The coaches should at least test the middle, use their eyeballs and brains to evaluate whether that will loosen up, and have a fucking plan B!

Our line backers are our strength, so other teams run plays that take them out of the equation. That's what we needed. Quicker passes, screens, RW roll outs. Take the best clemson players out of the equation. That takes actual brains that our coaching staff doesn't have.

^ then why the fuck do you run it up the middle...if you know their D-Line is filled with NFL players basically - do something to...wait for it..............not run into them and waste downs. mind fucking blowing.

I dont think Bible is great or anything but he gets some credit from me for talking our gutless POS coach into going for it on 4th down against FSU

With that said, there was no reason for us to even get to 4th down in that situation and I've been disappointed with some of our game plans this year

Regardless of how this season turns out we need Debbie Yow to go out and force this staff to make changes. Spend the money, win big games, get more people spending money to support the program. Why we have an offensive coordinator that seems to like to call the game like he's playing Madden up in the box is beyond me. There is so much wrong with the way this staff calls the games. I know we had success last year and some success this year, but overall we aren't at all creative and just become predictable at the worst times possible.

I don't like Paul Johnson's offense at all, but I do think he's got the balls to win the game. TOB did against FSU, but apparently that was a once in a lifetime type of experience. We need someone on this staff with some balls.

this is also correct. paul johnson is a novelty. sometimes it's going to work big, and sometimes it's going to get absolutely smoked. it's like the princeton offense. i'd rather lose trying to go for it all.

Games like today make me miss Amato.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want him back, but I'd rather lose because we were undisciplined or made a big mistake trying to win the game rather than lose because we have average talent and no balls. I'd rather win a couple of games we aren't supposed to win and lose one that we shouldn't than just win the games we "should" win every season.

TOB is a nice coach, but going 7-5/8-4 every year with a decent bowl bid is not what I'm looking for from our football program, we've been there and done that already. We have the resources and a perfect opportunity here in the next couple of years to lock up this state (assuming UNC is penalized), we can't piss that away by hanging on to a coach who will never put us in the upper tier of the ACC. FSU is back on the upswing, Miami will only stay down for another season or two at most. There is opportunity here, we need a coach who will take a few chances.

unlike these people, I was pissed as fuck that mediocre TOB was hired over PJ 4 years ago. and i will rub it in every fucking chance I get until TOB either delivers a championship or gets fired

SECOND: any coach who is going to run a gimmick offense is a coach that i do not want and i am glad that we did not hire paul johnson.

false dichotomies ITT

TOB is mediocre, so is PJ. PJ got early success with a new offense against a weak ACC. The rest of the ACC has now figured out. The choice is not between TOB and PJ, despite what pathetic trolling would have you believe

Likewise, the choice is not between TOB and amato. TOB is a guy who takes too few risks. Amato is one who takes too many (is this even true??? I think this is perception). Regardless, we don't want either. We want someone who takes the right risks.

The person has to have the ability to quickly recognize what is happening on the field, evaluate the positives and negatives of a decision, and make the right decision.

Oh, agreed. I don't want Amato back, but given the choice between TOB and CTC I'd take Chuck.

Given my druthers I'd like to have a guy who is a solid recruiter, hires aggressive coordinators on both sides of the ball, and is able to make smart in game decisions. Right now our coaching staff looks nothing like that.

My main beef right now with the offense is the way we do handoffs in the backfield. We do it play-action style every single time. Running back stops, takes ball, and then tries to pick a hole. It would be much better in the I-formation with Gentry or somebody as a blocker in front.

Why don't we just play like 10 different offensive styles rolled into one. I'm sure we could find time to practice all of that...if we used the Rich Rodriguez method.

We see the continuity carried over from the BC program. When the BC fans told us he'd choke big games and we'd get frustrated with lame playing calling out of Bible, we made up eleventy excuses about how that wouldn't happen here.

We have enough weapons on the field to keep teams from exploiting weaknesses and to allow us to exploit theirs. I don't know that the little dump to the RB just past the line of scrimmage has been stopped all year. It's likely because we use it so sparingly. However, I don't know that we used it at any key points in our losses where it could have bailed us out.

I can completely understand we need to try the draw so the defense has to respect it, but not once its patently fucking obvious it isn't working. The third down call RW came up short on was actually the first time we've called a QB keeper on anything other than a sneak in a really long time. However, why do you have a tailback out there apparently blocking (I'm not sure if he was or not) and not a full back?

I just think our offense is an old school "this is what we are coming to do, you stop it" and our OL isn't quite that capable yet. So why do we keep fucking trying to do it? Use the god damn weapons we have, minimize our weaknesses, and stop being so fucking predictable.

We are doing much better than last year.

These losses have been kicks in the nuts for sure, but we are still in it. I am not happy with that game, but I do have confidence in TOB using it to make us better for the last few games. You can have issue with his conservative playcalling (and after that game, you should), but you can't deny his ability to focus a team at the end of a season.

We still have a shot, lets see what happens.

Yep, Bible needs to go, he did throw that interception into triple coverage and he fumbled the ball. Oh, we need to fire Archer too for that block in the back that erased a touchdown. Who is our special teams coach? He needs to go for kicking that FG so low it got blocked, and for turning himself into 6 guys that couldn't pin a punt on the 1 yard line.
