i like how the whole thread about McAdoo completely ignores the revelations this week of him basically copying and pasting entire passages for his papers.

I also like how this totally makes the "Honor Court" at UNC look like a joke.

"Just wanted this posted because even I didn't realize this until my wife started law school..

You can directly copy and insert an entire page of opinions in a paper legaly as long as you cite the author and source...My wife during her masters and in law school would almost have a full paper full of this and its perfectly legal as long as you citethe source and give credit to the author. One professor at UNC even said, your opinion need to even have a source to cite becasue with out information you can not draw an opinion "thats very deep if you think about that". So based on graduate work and APA guildlines MM did nothing wrong and in THEORY you can cut and paste any information and almost an entire paper as long as you cite the source and give credit...Love how people think copying a paper or book is plagiarism..

wow, just wow. You can copy an entire paper as long you cite it? What fucking universe do those dicks live in?

You can copy whole paragraphs if you use quotation marks or block quotes. That's not really advisable though. Also not what McAdoo did.

^also, for an undergrad course, you shouldn't need to have that many outside ideas. for a master's or law paper, i suppose you could do it because it's not a 5 page paper you're writing...you might copy/paste from another source and cite it, but you still give your own analysis in an in-depth paper

^ haha

this guy is about to blow his little tarhole gasket over this:

Quote :
"Complete alternate universe today. I don't know how we can be anymore clearer for these people. If someone turns a paper in with his name on it, it is his paper. Now he may have cheated and plagiarized the whole **** thing but it still is his paper. Have brains stopped functioning today? Is today April fools day or a Friday the 13th? He cheated got caught and was suspended but that does not warrant a permanent ineligibility. THAT IS THE ISSUE NOT THE STUPID PAPER."

its like the 3rd 4th time he's made this appeal

their argument, to counter that the entire UNC Athletic dept and the professor lied to the Honor Court and also to the NCAA, is that, (seriously): he signed his named on it, thus, therefore, it is his work.

Even tarholes over there are admitting, and even damn begrudglingly giving PP props, that 3-4 entire pages are directly copied and pasted with NO citations.

Came here to post the exact thread/posts about plagiarism on IC. First off, to cut and paste something into your paper you must use quotations marks or whatever the accepted formatting is for in-text citations. MacAdoo didn't do that. Also, I really don't think any professor is going to be pleased when you turn in a 5 page paper that has 3 pages of direct quotes. They really are dumb on IC.

Reading that thread on IC makes me wonder if any of those posters ever did an essay in college or even high school (I know most are probably wal-marters, not UNC grads). I definitely knew when and how to use in-text citations when I was a freshman at State. I had been using them for pretty much all of high school. Knowing what/where/when to cite should not be something new to MacAdoo (unless other people have been citing his work for him his whole academic career)...And if those posters on IC ever wrote a college or high school essay/research paper, they would know just how retarded they sound. A citation on the works cited page does not mean you can copy and paste entire paragraphs without some sort of in-text citation.

"But when McAdoo's paper in question was made public in the court filings related to McAdoo's lawsuit against the NCAA and the university, commenters on the Pack Pride website - a site popular among fans of rival N.C. State - fired up their Internet search engines."

Cant imagine how it would feel to have legions of people you never have and never will meet, all trying to influence a decision regarding something you have loved and played your entire life. A decision that could say you'll never be able to play the game again.

Big **** you, state fans."

that right there is a big compliment and those asshats don't even know it. And so typical of their entitlement mentality:

It's not McAdoo's fault
It's not Butch's hired private tutor's fault
It's not the system of academics for Student-Athletes at UNC's fault
It's not Butch's fault
It's not Baddour's fault

IT'S STATE FANS FAULT

I'd like to comment on this more extensively but I can't. Let's just say he has a pretty decent case against the NCAA if everything in the complaint is true. Doesn't mean they will re-instate him however. It has potentially harmed his draft stock, it doesn't matter if he would have been a 3rd rounder at best to begin with.

The problem is that the complaint is missing the biggest issues. HE LIED TO THE NCAA. Also a central premise of the complaint is that the rest of the paper is "his work" and he only got help with the work cited page.

Part of the complaint is that the paper was his own work.

So....there's that.

Part of the case states that UNC never told the NCAA the honor court's rulings, which they clearly did and is recorded in the review minutes, so there goes that. Another part of the case is that the NCAA should defer to the honor court findings, which as far as I can find there is nothing that says that is the case (and shouldn't be, especially when the honor court just happened to not find the plagiarism, and again if the read the review docs they found him not guilt in the other case and to me it seems like the NCAA could easily disagree with that finding, and there is no record of the third offense which the honor court threw out but I'm sure the NCAA has seen that evidence as well.)

The UNC "Honor court" is a farce....My fiance's sister was suspended from UNC her Senior year because the graduate assistant who graded one of her tests added up the grade wrong. She asked the professor about it and he asked the grad assistant who did the typical flake out and said that IT WASN'T HIS WRITING and they turned her into the honor court....

Bottom Line up front: She was suspended for a semester for trying to change the grading....BTW, 3 honor court students resigned their positions due to that abortion of a kangaroo court.

i hope no one missed it, McAdoo admitted to UNC that Wiley TYPED HIS WORK, not just citations. TYPED.

Then all those buffoons go in front of the NCAA and say "hunerd percent, guaran-damn-tee it, its his original work"
