sounds like the ACC and UNC

Some of them are still whining about that "uncalled" late hit when a UNC player pushed a UT player into the guy.

Then ESPN shows a replay 5 times while the announcers talk about it nonstop because they are so unbiased and love to talk about ADVERSITY and how UNC can overcome it.

"Harrison Barnes/Larry Bird?
For those who remember, Larry Bird was a legendary high school basketball talent from a small school in Indiana. He initially accepted a scholarship to Indiana University but felt uncomfortable at the school and struggled with Coach Knight's offensive scheme. He quit the team and went back to French Lick.
He was subsequently recruited to play basketball for Indiana State.
The coach there allowed Bird to play "his game" and tailored his offense around his strengths. The rest is basketball history. Now, before the rants start, I am not suggesting Harrison Barnes transfer schools. I am suggesting that Coach Roy Williams accept the fact that, sometimes, the player is more important than the system. I watched the MSU/dook game last night and marveled at the freedom afforded to the freshman Kyrie Irvng. Dook's offense this year is nothing like the methodical half-court system he used last year. And they are still winning.
Bench-marking is how we all get better. I realise that such a change could take Roy out of his coaching comfort zone but, at this point, what does he have to lose? Just my two coppers for whatever they're worth."

^^yeah that is the one play that made me hate Bob Davie forever. It was so obvious that the UT player was blocked into the UNC player, yet Davie continued to scream about how that shouldve been a flag and was a late hit

I posted a link to the replay on facebook the other day because I got into a discussion about it

The Carolina Way is to point out when a vocal minority makes fun of a tragic event like Eve Carson, Jason Ray (Rameses), etc, yet ignore that your own vocal minority makes light of the car accident, the tailgating shooting, etc

i think i go into this like every 6 months or so, but ok. this site has (typically) good discussion on a variety of topics, not just sports. and the sports aren't limited to state sports (which i don't really partake in anyway). and it's mostly people in my age bracket, so i'm not arguing with 50 year old men. the fact that i went to carolina is irrelevant imo, unless you're just a completely insecure douchebag

got to love their fan base playing the "what if" scenario thinking either:

a) they should have gotten away with it

b) if they didn't do it, the players would still be there

not quite as annoying as ncsu students that pull for unc... but still annoying.

if you don't pull for your alma mater, then don't even bother imo.

My freshman year at State I was still a Duke fan. Had been a Duke fan from first watching basketball at around the age of 11 or so. Would have gone to Duke but they don't have an Ag program. So State it was. Sophomore year the Duke Blue glasses started coming off.....

I still like Duke, I'll pull for them when they aren't playing us.

i totally understand, and go so far as to support, people continuing to be fans of their childhood teams.

but like i said, if you pull for your own school to lose, that's like getting in a bar fight and liking the guy you're fighting more than yourself. it's pathetic.

^I'll admit that I do not know all of the specifics of our past NCAA violations...but, if I am getting this right (and please correct me if I'm wrong), back in the 80s were put on probation for players selling their complimentary tickets, and selling their shoes (which were provided by the university to the student-athletes). I know there were a lot of rumors relating to questionable academic practices by some of the players, but the NCAA apparently found nothing. Then, in the 70s we were put on probation because Thompson (I think) stayed in a dorm over night for no charge and I think giving him some free rides and stuff like that. And then we held an illegal tryout for Thompson...which, to my understanding was nothing more than a pick-up game of ball where an asst coach happened to be watching/playing.

That stuff doesn't seem too crazy. Sure, they were violations, but I'd bet several schools pushed the limits and broke some rules during Thompson's recruitment. Obviously, we took our punishment and served our time...but it's not like we were paying athletes outright (SMU football, Cam Newton allegations) or doing any over the top cheating.

Oh...and it was over 20 years ago. Whatever...UNC fans are insane.

^ That's literally all there is. In the '50s both NCSU and UNC got in a point shaving incident as well, but UNC's current football scandal looks to be the biggest thing since the point shaving one that implicated both schools.

State got screwed in '73 and screwed with the Valvano thing in the late 80's for some extremely minor violations ('80s) and some completely bullshit violations ('73). That's why State fans don't put much stock in what the NCAA will actually do to punish the UNC appropriately. We've gotten screwed while UNC has allowed schools like Duke/UNC some major leeway.

^Oh yes, I had forgotten about the point shaving scandal. I obviously have no way of knowing for sure, but I really doubt State was the only team breaking the rules with DT's recruitment...we were only turned in because he committed to us. And I'm not optimistic at all about UNC receiving a severe punishment unless something new comes out soon that we've yet to hear about. They'll definitely get in trouble, no way they skate, but I just don't see the hammer dropping too hard unless they can implicate Butch Davis or other coaches/administrators.

This sounds just like their argument that all schools pay their players in some way. So what Blake, Austin and the other dip shits did really isn't that big of a deal. The fact is, if you break the rules you need to either pay the penalty or get the rule changed.
