we were driving up north the first time i heard this song. on the only radio station we could get clearly. i was glad 20 minutes later when it was over

this song makes me miss 106.1, when it was acutally a good station, and they played this song every thanksgiving.

I saw him in concert. He hates this song. As soon as he came on stage people started shouting "play alice's restaurant!" You could see FUCK YOU written all over his face.

I doubt he hates the song. Sick of playing it, sure, but it's not the song's fault. The problem with having one big hit (and we can argue about "The City of New Orleans" later) is that you're always asked to play it. A lot of people have trouble with that as it is...now imagine if the song you're always asked to play is 19 minutes long.

With all that said, people who yell shit out at the beginning of a show are assholes.

I saw him in Birmingham about 12 years ago and he actually didn't play this. I was not disappointed, because that gets him time for two other songs rather than this one.

That said, I love this song.
