It's a game that has a problem with dirty hits that often go unpunished, but it's illegal for the players to handle it themselves. Give me a good argument for football not to have official-controlled, one-on-one fights.

What are you going to do? Punch someone in the helmet?

[Edited on November 27, 2010 at 4:54 PM. Reason : The only way to hurt people is fighting dirty and hitting/kicking them while on the ground]

Obviously you'd take off your helmet.

Why would I take off my helmet if someone wants to fight me?

because its a game of skill and strategy and who is better at throwing a punch should have no impact on anything

We're not talking about guys just playing the game, we're talking about guys who throw dirty hits.

well, if you are referring to the Maryland game, that was a perfectly legit hit, so that guy shouldnt have to worry about putting his dukes up to defend it

its like when growing up and people wanted to play "gorilla ball" bball... its fucking stupid. I was like, look bitch, if we are playing bball, we are playing bball, if you just want to fucking fight we can stop playing bball and do that instead, but thats not part of bball

It's the same reason there are fights in hockey.

If Ray Lewis was getting all up on Darren Sproles' shit in a dirty manner, then there should be a rumble between Lewis and an enforcer for the Chargers.

I just don't see how a fight would start.

Football players are too talented and to highly paid to have some "enforcer" out there wasting a position.

Eh, hockey players are multi million dollar athletes as well.

And I guess the high paid players wouldn't be fighting though, but your backup tackle making a couple mil could.

well there's 11 guys on the field

and most hockey teams only run nine forwards on the regular, but have room to throw that guy out there when they need to

not sure why you couldn't have a TE or lineman who could handle himself if a linebacker is acting like a bitch

also, the NHL league minimum is almost double that of the NFL

and there would be WAY too much debate like

"that was a dirty hit so I am going to fight!"
"no it wasnt, it was just a hard hit"
"fuck you!" punch punch punch
"wtf"?

what if your punter hits the punt returner with a helmet to helmet

should your defensive end get to beat the shit out of the punter?

^^^^ you think that doesn't happen in hockey?

you throw a dirty hit, you answer it

you throw a big, legal hit on a vunerable player, you answer it

take responsibility

^^ you don't fight for yourself

^^ and the game would be affected by someone who may be a good fighter against someone who isnt but is damn good at actual football.

so you could just have fucking Mike Tyson out there to beat the shit out of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed after they make tackles?? sounds awesome! what a game!

^ never said it doesnt happen in hockey, but its stupid in both. Someone legally hits you hard, you legally hit them hard, you dont punch like a bitch, what you are saying is not taking responsibility

So you mean teams would make substitution just to get their enforcer in there? Why wouldn't the other team just put in their own defensive enforcer at the same time? Football substitutions don't happen during play like hockey.

Also when would these things happen? There's a play clock going on. Teams gonna take a timeout to start a fight?

no one throws on the enforcer in the middle of the play. you get the guy the next time he's out there.

also, everything stops if there's a fight. play, clock, everything.

I dont know why the Colts didnt think to sign up the whole Gracie family to take out the Patriots after every tackle, game would have been so much easier

yes, but you do beat someone up for picking on something much smaller than they are

a 175 pound receiver could cut block a 390 pound defensive tackle and break his legs

so in return, your middle linebacker should be able to punch the receivers face into a coma

[Edited on November 27, 2010 at 5:10 PM. Reason : it could happen on an end around play action out of a wildcat formation, btw]

New Flash: The Buffalo Bills hires Royce Gracie out of retirement to put opposing team players into submission holds and pull their arms out of their sockets after every play where a Bills player gets hit. Attendance at games skyrockets!

i know you're half-trolling, but this isn't about regular everyday hits, or playing the game, or getting beat

hockey games average less than one fight per game, and the hitting is constant...but when something needs to be addressed, it gets addressed

football could be the same way

it works itself out on the field already...if someone takes a cheap shot on your player, you wait til you are on defense and you get a cheap shot on their player

just like in baseball, you bean somebody, you expect one of your players to get beaned...some people still resort for fighting but people who have been around baseball know how to settle it on the field...although often the umpires are cunty bitches

that's a shitty way to go about it, though

if you injure someone who had nothing to do with the cheap shot, it just continues the chain

if you go after the dirty player, things can end

Bullshit, if I'm a well paid 180 pound corner and I make a legal hit that the other team decides was too hard, I'm not about to take my helmet off so some 280 pound enforcer making league minimum can pound on me, doesn't matter if someone calls me a pussy. And if I'm that guy's coach I don't let him fight anyway, If fighting is legal I send in my own enforcer to fight their enforcer.

So in the end, it would serve no purpose execpt to waste time and let fans watch someone fight.

fighting in hockey is a shitty way to do it too

but all the sports have their own ways of doing it and theyre stubborn and wont change and they all think the other sports ways of doing it are stupid

I'm sure the Broncos would be glad to let their $10mil/year 35 year old shut down cornerback get put out for the season by some roid raging 24 year old mike linebacker

the Vikings would love for Favre to get beaten to death if he accidentally took out the legs of someone he just threw an interception to

The coach of the team getting penalized.

You seem to be under the impression that pro teams are just random guys who gather around every sunday and don't really care about the outcome of the game.

i'm saying that when your star player is laying half-dead from a dirty hit, getting the guy who did it is more important than 15 yards

you think that hockey players don't care about the outcome of the game? of course they do, but the well-being of their teammates is more important.
