What do you find appealing about the bold?

Why not an Android or WP7

I jumped from a blackberry to an android phone (Samsung Captivate).

Loved my blackberry, didn't think I'd ever make the switch. The time came and I had the Torch, iphone, and Captivate in front of me to play with. Messed around with the torch for a few minutes, put it down. Went back and forth with the iphone and Captivate for a good 25-30 minutes before going with the Samsung. Couldn't be happier.

Bye bye blackberry forever...unless something drastically changes.

For the everyday user I'd definitely recommend an Android device or WP7. If you're heavily addicted to email and texting but don't give a flip about games or a touch screen you could stick to the 'berry.

I personally use a berry for my daily stuff; but that's because I email and text like a fool and can still get 2-3 days out of my berry. I'll only get around half a day out of my android handset when I switch over to it. Only played with a WP7; but their growing app market is coming up on a place where it should have almost everything you need and most of your wants. Android has everything and then some and most are free via text ads on loading screens (100x better for me than paying 1.99 for everything.)

There are much better choices than an iPhone these days, don't limit your options.

Well see the reason I am thinking about the Bold is the fact that it is pretty much being given to me if I want it. I am eligable for an early upgrade but I do not want to sign another contract with AT&T, and my account doesn't run up until June 2011. So in my opinion the free option would be a nice change of pace.

However I like my iPhone and I dunno if the blackberry will make me happy. I really like the fact that the BB has a physical keyboard. That is the second biggest issue with the iPhone at least to me(the firs biggest issue being AT&T.)

The biggest issue so far is the fact that I will loose my unlimited data plan.

I have a Bold from when they first came out and it is a solid phone. That said, it can't really touch the iphone/droid type phones. I am just waiting for a new round of Android phones to come out before I switch.

I'm going to switch from blackberry to android or WP7 in a few months when my contract runs out (might look at iphone too if they release for verizon by then)

Only thing I'll miss about Blackberry is BBM.

Blackberry acquired the swedish mobile UI designer TAT to polish up its next UI. Here are some of their demos:

http://www.tat.se/videos/

Should be drastic enough. Now if they can get developers to make enough decent apps for it.

That use to be my big thing until I started using "swype" (which I was very much against in the past). From a huge "physical keyboard" proponent in the past...swype is awesome.

My Samsung Captivate feels so much smaller and lighter in my pocket than my Bberry Bold did. Shit was clunky. My Captivate is light and slim.

blackberry already lost me. if it weren't for AT&T being absolutely horrible (especially when Verizon is so strong in this area) i would have left RIM for the iPhone a while ago. as it stands, if the iPhone comes to Verizon when im up for a new phone in June, im switching immediately. i might even pay for one straight up when they come out, regardless. sorry BB. the only thing you had going for you was BBM, and that's not enough.

Blackberry got old for me too. But like I said in the other thread. Can you guys compare for me?

"I am seriously here for some serious questions. I want to get the I phone 4 for Christmas this year. I have had a blackberry curve now for 2 years since 2008. I used to love the thing but now I HATE it. So slow for the internet but I like how I can save all my text etc. It seems as the more messages I get the slower the phone gets and it freezes a LOT

So could you tell me some things. What is the highest possible deposit one would have to make to ATandT since I would be switching. Do you have to have like the best credit ever? What if you have been with your cell phone provided for 6 years? Also....right now I pay 81.81 a month. I get 900 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends starting at 7, unlimited text, unlimited data, insurance, etc. What could I expect to pay with ATT. My work gets us 18 percent off so that isn't too bad. Please get into everything you can give me for advice!!!!!!! thanks."

i asked this question a couple months ago, and a bunch of people recommended android over blackberry. i got a droid x last summer and am so glad i went with it instead of a blackberry.

is swype like the predictive text available on motorola phones (and others, i guess...i've only used it on motorola dumbphones)?

because i can type faster using that than i can on my wife's alias 2 with it's "real" keyboard

"haha" always comes up as "gaia", though

It's not predictive. I guess you'd call it interpretative. You just swipe your finger over the letters in sequence rather than stopping to tap each.

swype has a setting like

Accuracy-------------[]--------------Speed

where you can move the [] to whichever is more important to you

agreed

Seriously though, Blackberries are the worst smart phone devices when compared to Android phones and Iphones.

Their equipment is slow, their software is outdated, their apps suck, and their touchscreen technology is garbage.

[Edited on December 14, 2010 at 11:55 AM. Reason : I had a BB for 5 years, got a Droid and will never EVER go back. Blackberry is old news.]

Get off your lazy ass and go to AT&T yourself. No one here is going to be able to give you any specifics unless they work for them.

They have all kinds of rebates and deals all the time...and you can talk them into certain things as well. I imagine you can get a pretty good deal on a phone if you tell them you're thinking about switching over from a carrier you've had for 6+years.

I miss certain aspects of my old blackberry storm after having my Droid for the past year.

It really depends on how you use your phone.

iPhone > Android > BlackBerry in general, but i haven't used any of the new gen blackberry phones.

I haven't used a WinMo 7 device, but they actually seem pretty awesome if the commercials are anywhere close to reality.

i work for the government, and everyone has to use a blackberry at work (i don't yet) i guess because they're more secure for transmitting data. but other than security and needing to fire off 1000 emails a day i don't understand why you'd ever get a blackberry over an android phone.

My original post was to get some insight seeing as how I had never had a blackberry. Honestly to me the iPhone is a joke but that is only because of the shitty as carrier it is with. After reading this I guess I will keep the the iPhone and just keep kicking it with AT&T until June and hope that Verizon does in fact get the iPhone in 2011. Either way come June I am saying goodbye AT&T and jumping on the Android bus with Verizon.

Rat, it has nothing to do with security. You're work probably just has a BES server that they paid $texas for and don't want to eat the cost.

I have a Bold 9700 from work and have played a lot with people's iPhones. They're two completely different animals. iPhones are great because of the various apps and whatnot they have. However, I really enjoy the Bold because of it's excellent integration into my employer's exchange system: the ability to look up contacts, read encrypted email, etc. on the go is a big plus. I don't think I would buy one for myself, but for work purposes, it's great.

That's true enough. I guess it's more because my company doesn't allow anything but a BlackBerry on the network.
