Bought a new house and it is prewired for an alarm system. I don't really care about monitoring (I mean being able to install a notification via text or email or phone would be cool, but I don't want to pay for it) - I just want something that will be really loud if someone tries to break in.

I found some stuff on the internet, but just wondering if anyone tdubbers have any personal experience or recommendations?

^ I think theres your answer.

Id say google is your friend here. Speaking from a general EE perspective, It shouldnt be that hard to wire it to some sort of computer that can communicate via the net. Dunno your personal experience doing this but it sounds like a good project.

I know personally my system in my old apartment, we had pulled the telephone wire (for notification) but still had it on to go off if someone came in. You probably can do this just by reading the manual and figuring out where it connects to. Then again might not even have to bother with that if it doesnt know where to connect to.
