Quote : | "UFC Fighter Jacob Volkmann Calls Out President Barack Obama, Gets A Visit From the Secret Service
UFC lightweight Jacob Volkmann, following his win over Antonio McKee, declared that he wanted to fight U.S. President Barack Obama for his next fight. His words got him a visit from the Secret Service on Wednesday.
Volkmann, who is based out of Minnesota, told MMAFighting.com after his win over McKee that he wanted to face Obama because he disagreed with many of his policies.
Well, if anyone ever wondered if a potential threat against the President goes unnoticed, you just got your answer.
The Secret Service showed up at both his residence and during his youth wrestling camp to interview him about the potential threat made to the President.
MMAWeekly.com confirmed with training partner Nick Thompson, who spoke directly to Volkmann, that the Secret Service agents showed up and interviewed him regarding his remarks about President Obama following UFC 125.
The interview was a formal process due to any potential threat made against the President, and Wednesday’s investigation should be close of the matter.
Volkmann was successful in his fight at UFC 125, and almost mentioned a possible future fight against Clay Guida. It appears that one is much more likely than the Obama confrontation.

Well, at least it was a minor waste of money (in sending Secret Service out to talk to him) rather than some kind of legal proceeding...
I dunno, I'm torn. If we start randomly ignoring people who say they want to violently beat the president, sooner or later someone's gonna try it and then we all look stupid.
Incidentally, in my first sentence I tried abbreviating Secret Service and then thought better of it upon reading the sentence... 1/6/2011 11:59:18 PM |

^ it is for that reason why you always see it abbreviated as USSS. Leave it to the germans to ruin it for everyone else. 1/7/2011 12:08:36 AM |

Yeah but if I saw that I'd just think someone was shooting for "USSR" and failed.
And the goddamn Germans do ruin a lot. I hang out with a bunch of Indian folks I like a lot, and seeing a bunch of swastikas is off-putting. You don't get over years of anti-swastika conditioning overnight. And no, I don't immediately tell the difference in which direction they are facing. 1/7/2011 12:16:01 AM |

I don't see how that's a threat in the context of the sport that the dude does. It's different than if he claimed that he just wanted to punch him in the neck.
It would be like if Yao Ming was all like "I'd like to play Obama 1 on 1 and dunk on his ass because I disagree with his policies" 1/7/2011 11:45:17 AM |

any time a physical threat is publicly expressed against the President of the United States, and the Secret Service becomes aware of it .... the Secret Service is *required* to investigate.
*any* physical threat. *any* president.
wanna try it out and see?
send an email to this address admin@usss.dhs.gov and express your desire to dominate POTUS in hand-to-hand combat "because you disagree with his politics" ... for a quicker response, call the Raleigh field office 919-790-2834
it's not real fucking hard to figure out, people.

Secret Service checks Eminem's 'dead president' lyric Saturday, December 6, 2003 Posted: 0508 GMT
NEW YORK (CNN) -- The Secret Service is trying to determine if any action needs to be taken regarding a lyric from rapper Eminem that may be a threat to President Bush.
The lyric comes from a bootleg Eminem recording -- one of several from the rapper making rounds on the Internet over the past week.
In the song called "We Are American," Eminem sings: "(Expletive) money, I don't rap for dead presidents. I'd rather see the president dead."

The secret service came to my high school once because some kid made fake money with the library printer and then tried to buy his lunch with it in the cafeteria.
I realize that story has nothing to do with this, but I've already typed it so I'm just going to hit 'post reply'. 1/7/2011 3:23:37 PM |

the interview probably went like this,
Secret Service: Hey, do you really want to hurt the president?
Man who isn't good enough to box: Naw, I'm just tryin' feel important
Secret Service: Ok, well don't fucking do that anymore, retard. Now we have to scope you out for a month or so, and none of us enjoy being in minnesota in the winter

He didn't say he wanted to beat up the President. He said he wanted to fight him. When you say you want to fight someone, there is no implication in there that if the person declines, you would fight them against their will and/or beat them up.

here, let me help:
when the US Secret Service is informed by 20 people that a person has expressed a desire to seriously injure the President of the United States because said person doesnt like the president's politics...
... well, the Secret Service is required by law to investigate.
so what part of this dont you camelfuckers understand? this is a nation of laws, you see. we dont just have a camelfucking dictator send their camelfucking henchmen out to shoot a camelfucker in the head, you know.
we got procedures, and shit.

That. You completely made up your own distinction between "fight" and "beat-up." I'm actually amazed by how you convinced yourself that there is a difference.

J.H.Christ is right, your logic is contorted. but not for the reason he pointed out. You're throwing a red herring. it's irrelevant how the fight would be arranged.
what's relevant here is that the Secret Service received about 20 complaints that a person was making a threat against a person covered by their Protective Services Division. it's plain and simple: they have to investigate. it has nothing to do with Obama.

Nope.
I vaguely recall some TWWer getting a visit during the Bush era?
This has nothing to do with Obama, it has been like this for decades.

The other factor is that since it’s a celebrity, it might incite some other nutjob to take up his cause. The USSS is more likely to take a visit when a celebrity says/does physically threatening things.
