My friend got an email stating that the Duke student tickets were now invalid due to some software error in distributing/assigning the seating. Something about the seats were incorrectly assigned. They will be redistributed (if you got a ticket initially, you will still get one...just a different seat) Friday. I have yet to receive this email so I'm paraphrasing a bit.

Edit: Just received the email...here it is:

Although lottery winners will still receive tickets to the game, seating assignments will change. Seats will be assigned as usual based on loyalty points. Any tickets that were claimed and printed on Thursday, January 13th are invalid."

Hello

My name is, I am a sophomore at NCSU and have missed one football game in the last two years and three basketball games in the last two years. This year, myself, many of my friends, and even more people on NCSU messaging boards are getting very upset with the ticketing system. Here are some issues that I personally have dealt with this year alone.

For one of the football games, my suite-mate who had -1 loyalty points requested a ticket with my roommate as the group leader. My roommate and I both decided to abandon his group and request with our fraternity so we would have more loyalty points (he and I each had about 6 points). My roommate and I did not get tickets. My suite-mate who had -1 points (meaning he claimed for one game and didn't even go) and who selected to sit with a group leader whos group account was not even being used, got a ticket.

There have also been 4 examples during the non-conference games at the beginning of this basketball season where me and three of my friend have requested to be in my roommates group. We got tickets, and these tickets were not together at all. We all claimed at the right time and everything. The seats were just not together. There was nobody there so thankfully we were able to sneak into the same section and enjoy the game as we should have been able to.

The final example is how me, my roommate, and our two friends who all have 11 loyalty points for basketball, were put in the 300 level for the Duke basketball game. If we were put behind the basketball goal (as we had be wrongfully put a few times earlier this season) I would have been pretty mad, because I know we have more points than the other people sitting along the sideline. But not only are we not on the sideline, we are in the top section of the stadium.

For a system that is supposed to reward student and fan loyalty with better seats, I don't see how these results can be justified. Last year it seemed that everything worked out as it should have, but this year, I've heard from multiple people that the selection system has been reversed and that people with lower numbers were getting priority.

I don't know whether I'm looking for an explanation or an apology but my main message is that for a university as prestigious as NC State, it's pretty sad that we cant get a ticketing system right. And if I have directed this email to the wrong address please tell me so that I can send it to the right people.

I understand your concerns and apologize for your frustration. You are not the first person to have emailed me over the course of this year, or last year. Our current ticketing system was designed to fill our stadiums and work during a period when our athletic program was not exactly up-to-par. As you saw this season, flaws in the system were exposed when demand regularly, and greatly, exceeded supply.

Currently, we are in the process of developing a new student ticketing system, with a committee, co-chaired by myself and one of our senior ADs, already having met twice. It is our goal to create a simple, easy to understand, system that truly rewards loyalty.

As for the Duke game, I sincerely apologize for the confusion and frustration. Due to a software error in the online ticketing system, student seats for the men's basketball game against Duke were assigned incorrectly. Although lottery winners will still receive tickets to the game, seating assignments will change. Seats will be assigned as usual based on loyalty points.
