Looks awesome, IS awesome.

Considerably harder than Super Mario Bros. Wii, but not unreasonably so.

Yeah, I've played it. It was discussed a bit in the Wii thread.

message_topic.aspx?topic=404612&page=116

I replayed the original 3 before getting this one. It's pretty good and now you can find it for about $40 (new). Some complain that they all but got rid of the animal buddies, there's no kong switching, and that there aren't any water levels, but other than that it's been universally praised. I found it was just as good as the originals.

One issue I have is that the Wii makes really loud disk seek noises when I play this game. Some levels the disk seek noise fires off constantly about once per second. Other levels there's no disk seek outside the initial level load. I thought it might be a bad console or a bad disk press, but apparently others experience the same issue. It's not that bad if you have the volume turned up.

You could play Super Mario Bros. Wii blindfolded after mastering DKCR.

That's hard to disagree with.

This one gives you two options. Use the Wiimote on it's side, then use the 1 & 2 buttons. Use the nunchuck and fail hard - at least in my experience.

One button jumps, the other you hold to grab stuff and run a bit faster. You have to shake the Wiimote to roll, ground pound, and -possibly another game shortcoming- blow on things.

At first I thought shaking the wiimote would be really distracting, but it works out. Slight movement works, you don't have to beast the wiimote to get the shake to register.

i looooved the original (both on GB and SNES)

I want to get this one, but I know I'll never play it (I have bought 2 wii games over the last year that have not even been opened).

I'm really pleased with it. It's much harder than super mario bros wii, which is good, because that game was disappointingly easy.

Yeah, I don't really play games much so despite how cool this looks, I won't bother.

With that said, DKC2 is an absolutely brilliant game.

2 player coop sucks

the game has been enjoyable. what is the point of gathering puzzle pieces, to get a new picture in your gallery? Does it unlock anything?

The game is great. Every level from World 2 on is a challenge. Those rocket barrel levels were killer.

The only bad part is that you shake the Wii remote to roll, but to blow on objects you also shake the wii remote while holding down. Every once in awhile I'll roll off a cliff because I'm holding down and forward. I got it down pretty quickly but it still happened occasionally.

^^
great platformer. if you collect all the puzzle pieces and KONG in every level of a world a new level will open up.

You don't have to get all the puzzle pieces to open up the new level, just the KONG letters.

^So your plan is to play co-op? I haven't tried that yet, but I imagine it would only up the difficulty - and by no small margin.

a played through 2 or 3 worlds on my nieces' wii.

I hated that you have to shake the controller to roll. about 80% of the time, I try to roll into an enemy or do the roll-into-the-void-and-jump-midair-for-extra-distance move only to die. Hard shakes, soft shakes, etc. It made rolling basically useless for me and zapped a lot of the fun out of the game.

fwiw, I had no problems with the shake mechanics on SMB
