I have had my Optoma HD20 projector for a year. About 3 months ago the projection would start flickering after being on for a couple minutes and the color is all messed up. I read that turning the unit upside down would fix the problem. I did that and the projection worked perfectly for 3 months until it started doing it again. Now my projector will not turn on. When I press the power button the green LED flashes, but no there is no projection.
Does anyone have any experience with projectors and have advice on how to fix and/or where I should take it to get fixed? My 1 year warranty expired 1 week before this happened 1/17/2011 12:11:00 PM |

In my experience we replace lamps, and we replace projectors. There is no real point in repair on these things. Most places will charge $150-$200 to fix it and you can buy and brand new one for $400, with a warranty.
That's just me though - we have 3 projectors running very regularly, so that might be a higher use scenario than you have.
However, wolf camera before they went under was the only place I knew of to fix them. I've also called the local school district(via a teacher from church) and gotten one fixed (they have the know-how and access to parts.) Also, fregac might be able to take a look at it. 1/27/2011 10:59:29 PM |

Well, I sent it back in to the manufacturer, and the price to repair was absurd, so I am getting it back. However, I did get the problem diagnosed. (1) The main (mother) board is messed up to a point where the unit will not turn on and (2) the bulb needs replacing. Help ? 1/30/2011 11:20:23 AM |

Pretty sure my post covers this already.
Replace it or call fregac and throw money at him. But you're already in it a bulb (probably $125) and a motherboard ($50-$100) plus installation.

Comes with 5 year warranty (which is why we have 2+cold spare ) Looks like you missed the free bulb deal. 1/30/2011 8:57:18 PM |
