"Safety Group Accidentally Touches Off Accusations That Michelle Obama Is Killing Pedestrians" http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/01/safety_group_accidentally_touches_off_accusations.php?ref=fpb
Quote : | "This morning, the Governors Highway Safety Association released a report noting that the number of pedestrian deaths has slightly increased. The group, which looked at the first six months of 2010, made two hypotheses as to why: One, that pedestrians and drivers are more distracted by cell phones and the like; and two, that there are simply more pedestrians these days.
"A focus on liveable communities, or 'get moving' health and fitness programs may increase walking and pedestrian-vehicle conflicts," the report reads.
The Daily Caller and the Washington Examiner jumped on that part of the report, claiming it was an attack on First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign." |
Quote : | "Here's how the Daily Caller put it:
Pedestrian deaths increased sharply during the first half of 2010, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). On Wednesday, the Executive Director of the GHSA accused the first lady's obesity program of causing the deaths by encouraging people to exercise." |

Better dead walking on the road than dead of obesity related illnesses while floundering in their oversized bed dowsed in urine and crumbles from their last Big Mac. 1/20/2011 6:47:46 PM |

Well, what they said wasn't quite that crazy. More pedestrian accidents are happening possibly because there are more pedestrians or more distracted drivers. It was the spin that those who picked it up and ran with it that turned it into Michelle Obama killing people.1/20/2011 7:39:24 PM |

Speaking of Michelle Obama's health initiatives, she made the news again today:
Quote : | "Wal-Mart Shifts Strategy to Promote Healthy Foods
WASHINGTON — Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest retailer, will announce a five-year plan on Thursday to make thousands of its packaged foods lower in unhealthy salts, fats and sugars, and to drop prices on fruits and vegetables.
The initiative came out of discussions the company has been having with Michelle Obama, the first lady, who will attend the announcement in Washington and has made healthy eating and reducing childhood obesity the centerpiece of her agenda. Aides say it is the first time Mrs. Obama has thrown her support behind the work of a single company. " |
Quote : | "But because Wal-Mart sells more groceries than any other company in the country, and because it is such a large purchaser of foods produced by national suppliers, nutrition experts say the changes could have a big impact on the affordability of healthy food and the health of American families and children.
Some say the company has almost as much power as federal regulators to shape the marketplace." |
