"So I've had my 335i for a little over two years, and haven't had a single problem with it. The CPO is up in August and I'm debating if I want something else (and should prepare to sell it), or if I'm gonna roll the dice and own it out of warranty...

What would you all do?"

trade it in for another CPO.

my questions:

#1 do yall pay these cars off before the CPO is up ?
#2 what's the difference between your payments and say a lease on one?
#3 when you trade it in, how much $ do you lose?

1 - I tend to pay off cars when I sell them
2 - Never tried to lease
3 - I don't trade cars in. I sell private party.

just wondering if a lease would be better than a car you don't trust without a warranty.

^ hmmm I've never got a quote before. I can only imagine (in this case) leasing a $50k + car might be cost prohibitive.

Lease offers:
http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/financialservices/offers.aspx?offer=Leasing&from=/Standard/Content/FinancialServices/LeaseRD.aspx&return=/Standard/Content/FinancialServices/LeaseRD.aspx

Quote :
"$389*/month for 36 months. $1,000 Lease/APR Credit and $750 Loyalty Cash included in payment.
• $389 First months payment
• $3,000 Down payment
• $0 Security Deposit
• $725 Acquisition fee
• $4,114 Cash due at signing"

$389 sounds good. $3k down does not. It appears this is for a 10k/year mile lease too. I emailed the dude I bought my car from. I imagine he'll quote something more attractive.

One of the negatives of a lease for me is you eliminate the potential to get a great deal on a car and have some cash left over when you sell it a 2-3 years later. I'd also be sketchy about not actually owning the car, limiting what I can do with it (aka can't work on it myself, modify etc), and the potential for having to pay $$$ when I return it, for damages, excessive wear and tear, over mileage etc. I would just feel locked in. Plus what if I want something else in a couple years?

got an email back:

Quote :
"If you were to lease a new 335 with options similar to the one you have now, the payment would fall somewhere in the $550-600/month range (depending on 12k or 15k miles with only about $1200 up front. The leases are very attractive at the moment, let me know what else I can do to help."

Compared with paying ~$30k for a CPO one. With 1.5% through Penfed the payments would be around $520.

Was a warranty CPO important in his search? Is he going to buy a warranty?

Also I wonder why they didn't CPO that car...

I'm not sure, but the dealership said they didn't feel like paying the cost to CPO it.

Flogged the shit out of my 335 today. I am ready to find e85 here. I am only 417rwhp. It is new turbos time or e85 time. Anything thinking about a 335 do it. I look forward to my commute now.

I'm running 50/50 93/e85. Car feels so slow on straight 93 now. I max 13psi on 93, 17psi on the mix.
I used to baby my car, it was in the shop every other month, now I drive it hard and it has not missed a beat in 2 years (other than the faults MOSFET in the DME, $.75 fix).

I'm out of warranty now and I don't worry at all about it. Anything that breaks is not a big deal to fix, I'm hoping my turbos fail soon so I can have an excuse to replace them with Vargas Stage 3 for the wife.

So I have 61,xxx miles now, and the CPO is up in a couple weeks. I'm scheduled to take it in Thursday for a battery cable recall. Is there anything should have them check? I assume saying "can you see if anything covered by the CPO is broke" won't get me far.

Also is there any maintenance I should do at this point? Outside of oil changes, brakes, air and cabin filters I don't think I've done anything else since I got it at 34k. Plugs? Brake fluid? Coolant? This thing recommmends all sorts of shit: http://tinyurl.com/knukxud

Can't bring myself to do it. It's been rock solid and I can't think of anything I'd like to buy instead. Pretty damn happy with the car. Never thought I'd be closing in on 3 years of ownership without wanting for something else.

^not to be negative, but i bought mine with exactly 60k on the clock and a month later started having every known 335 problem under the sun, just short of blown turbos. mine was 07.

my buddy has 08 and it has been reliable. id say keep, but more because there is nothing good to replace it with. at the price point it is currently it's a good value.

im at 156k on M5. just put new tires. runs like a bat outta hell. never looked back, but that's not for everyone.

^^ something other than a bmw turbo implementation
honestly, there are very few fun sedans out there and that's why it took me so long to find a car. the issues i've seen out of the n54 and the fact that it's very susceptible to heat soak (stock) make me want to steer clear.

m3, evo X if available at a reasonable price, s60r, 2014 wrx, 2014 vette, cayman S, and 911 were the cars I considered. the first 4 are available as sedans

mine has been in the shop for 2 weeks waiting on a DME. It's gone as soon as it's repaired. 11/06 build date. I was considering an e90 m3 but the rod bearing issue scared me off.

^seems that there are more failures on '08. nothing conclusive yet, but it is too early to say as the cars are not yet in high mileage. BMW changed part number on main crankshaft bearing on '09 and up M3s.

You should do plugs. They are "rated" to 90k from factory, but they get fouled up much earlier.
FWIW, my water pump went out at 87k leaving me stranded. It was under CPO so $1000 repair bill was covered.

anyone ever done intake/exhaust/chip? I'm considering it, but it's my daily driver and I've read mixed things about the chips. the car is a 2007 with about 60k and paid off fwiw.

I had COBB for 20K miles. Generally software is fine to run. It makes considerably more power and especially torque than stock. You will not blow out your turbos unless you start running 18psi, add downpipes, chargepipe...etc... at which point it will just blow hot air anyway.

So no fluids at this point?

I'm going to replace my air filter...hilariously AutoZone wants $45 for the ATP one, a Mann is $25 on Amazon, and a K&N is $50 on Amazon. Any advantage to the K&N, other than never having to buy a new one?

Washing/oiling a K&N can be a pain in the ass. I'm assuming it's a drop-in rather than a cone? Probably easier in that case.

When I had one opinions seemed to be divided, to say the least.

I didn't buy OEM brake pads, and I'm happier for it.

As far as plugs go, the copper ones don't last as long as the newer ones.

Sold mine last month. I put 60k miles with serious flogging daily on every mile. Most fun in a sedan I have had to date. So cheap to make fast. I will start looking for another when PTF and Shiv make singles that are realistic in price. 10k to go to a single is still too much money. In the mean time my local Chevy dealer got fucked.

I can only imagine that's the case, when the aftermarkets are like $30-$40/pair and the OEMs are $150+/pair...but I ordered one of the former. They're 5000k so they should be remotely close to the OEM as far as the color goes. We'll see...

god forbid you need one of those - OEM is ~$1000, Hellas are ~$800

^ inorite? *Hopefully* it's just the (high/low beam) bulb...I've read a shitload of horror stories about the drivers side high/low bulb going out and it's not the bulb, but the ballast (whatever the fuck that is), so I'm hoping that's not it.
