Warner Premiere has announced a new live action digital Mortal Kombat. This is based on the new game coming out this spring and the short film by Kevin Tancharoen we saw online last summer.

I have been looking for new footage of the upcoming game at least twice a week, and this is the very first official footage I've seen of Liu Kang, Baraka, and what looks like Quan Chi. Outstanding. It looks like Goro will be a playable character, but I was really hoping more for Kintaro. I guess we'll see soon.

From that Kratos trailer, he looks to be a PS3 exclusive. Any ideas as to who might be the Xbox exclusive?

Well after a little googling, it looks like Kratos will be the only exclusive character.

Actually, they just confirmed that it won't be Marcus Fenix. Ed Boon did an interview where he was asked this question and he flat out said that they haven't decided on a character but that they were working on it.

Kinky. This is based on mk2 I take it? Might be worth to pick up when it hits $15 since mk2 was my favorite one bar none, but I'm not enough of a fan to buy these games right out the gate.

Looks like the xray mode attacks kill the fighter...but aside from that don't seem that special...unless its a special way to end round one. I can't iimagine fighters getting up from having their backs or skulls shattered in the middle of a fight

X-Ray attacks aren't instant kills, but are instead like the super move of the MK world. My understanding is that you will have a bar which fills either when you take damage or deal out combos (I'm not clear on which yet), and can use an X-Ray move in a combo to deal out extremely heavy damage.

What little I know about the story of this game involves Raiden realizing that his death is imminent, and so he somehow sends a warning to his former MKI self about the events which transpired after Shao Khan came to earth. Basically, this game will include a lot of content from the first 3 MK games, but nothing beyond that. The mention of Quan Chi in Scorpion's story is very unusual, though...

I mean, I realize its Mortal Kombat, but I just have a really hard time suspending belief when I see a fighter's skull and neck shattered beyond all recognition, and then for them to keep fighting, let alone standing breathing.

^Yeah that's what I was thinking. If Sub-Zero freezes and crushes your liver then cracks your skull with a head-butt you wouldn't be able to stand, let alone fight. But then again in MK3 you could block Stryker's bullets with your arms so whatever.

from videos they look blockable (x-ray moves). I'm not sure if they've decided on an effect - rumored on no blocking, slowed character, etc. They've pretty much guaranteed there would be some visual element for the remainder of the fight (character holding arm, stomach, etc.)

Yeah, the x-ray moves are cool but I'm with ThePeter regarding suspension of disbelief. It is a fantasy game, but when you do something like "see what happens to the insides of the person" you're introducing a level of rules (this person has internal organs and bones that are necessary for him to function) and then breaking those rules all in one pass. It's difficult to swallow even in the context of crazy ass dragon uppercut bullshit in MK.

You can see in Johnny Cage's gameplay video that his victory pose has his face all fucked up and teeth knocked out.

I especially won't know how to take it when a fighter takes an X-Ray hit in round 1, gets knocked out, and then pops up full health ready to go in Round 2...and then 3, haha.

I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a fighting game. I love the tip of the hat to the super old rumor from MK2 about feeding people to the trees. It amazes me how they have made Stryker look so badass now when he was a joke in MK3.
