so in the current space just go towards the deck further, moving the server station not so close to the entrance and thus ending the clusterfuck that makes it hard to maneuver in that place?

i did not like the food i had there, besides the tater tots.

it was so bad i do not know if i will ever give it a second try.

i have only been to the hive maybe 3 times but didn't like it when i went there. just the vibe, not the space.

but i'm glad it exists because it seems to do well and that is good for the area as a whole! and i like their beer selection (had some good seasonals there). but yea...i'm more of a slim's person, too. or if i'm eating, the times.

i DO wanna check out the mecca late night though since they started doing that. off topic, but ya know!

this will increase the linear footage from behind which they can offer terrible service

[Edited on January 31, 2011 at 8:00 PM. Reason : actually the coffee bar service has always been really good]

tots are the only thing really worth eating

the patrons are fucking awful

which sucks, because the guys who own it are really nice and it's a beautiful space

but i have to be severely coerced to even set foot in there

I agree with losthokie in this particular argument.

Always had a good time, there... well at least on the deck at Hive.

Awesome. You ordered the two items they put on the menu for drunk idiots/poor people to order and then you complained about the food.

Joke's on you, they're glad you aren't coming back.

I used to work in the espresso bar at Bee. Part of the problem with it is that it was never advertised. Wilmington Street is a terrible location for a coffee bar. It doesn't get the foot traffic of Hargett and Fayetteville. We were really into artisan stuff.

We sold the GB/5 manual espresso machine to Deep Java which is opening up next door in House of Style.

Busy Bee's food is subpar at best and overpriced. I only go there for the drink selection.

i always thought it was a little odd/out of place. and yea, it wasn't advertised at all. did people utilize it a lot or...not so much?

I must disagree completely with the guido glenwood south vibe statement

The several times I have been there, yeah it was a bit dressier crowd than you will see at the times, but that isn't a bad thing in my opinion. Never had any douchebag problems there, service was always good, beer selections is good, food we had was good. I guess maybe you had an off night, but i would not at all compare it to what you see on glenwood south (which I still avoid if I can)

note on the food: I was buzzed both times I ate there, so that I might be 100% on, but I remembered liking it

and as for expensive? if you don't want overpriced, don't go down town. That's what ruckus, bada, sammy's, east village, etc.. are for.

^^It wasn't utilized. It's a shame. Reasonable, locally roasted coffee. The baristas (there were only three of us) were all really well trained with multiple years working on manual and semi-manual machines. They bought a La Marzocca GB/5, Super Jolly grinders, the works. Nice stuff. Never took off or was given freedom to do so by the restaurant. The owners are great guys but they're bar people, not coffeehouse people.

TL;DR: Last day the espresso bar is open is Friday.

Most people just thought the barista was a hostess and were confused.

In the Yelp! reviews, the coffee is the most consistently highly rated thing. I even had a total stranger mention me by name for doing shit right.

damn that is crazy and kinda sad

you got a new job though already, right?

i saw the coffee bar the couple times i went there, but never really thought much of it. also, the times i was there i was there to drink (beer) so the coffee didn't really fit in. but i would have liked to tryyyy it.

The espresso bar was only open 7am until 9pm or 10pm on weekends. Gotta get those morning caffeine buzzes!

The Hive / Busy Bee on First Friday is awful, but for a good reason. It gets pretty packed.

lots of ed hardy and horrible, loud music

Even the good places are a shitshow on weekends. That block around downtown is one big bar some times. I say this from being sober and working down there.

I enjoyed it the one time I went there. A little crowded, but the bartenders were nice and let my friends try some of the beers they wanted to taste.

7/10 IMO
