Won't reach 2 pages, but I figured I'd start one up. Charlotte is in course building frenzy mode trying to get all its courses in for the 2012 worlds.

Wonder when Leigh Farm in Durham will get their course straight. That course has a lot of potential.

No and I'm in Charlotte. Interesting to hear of a women's league at kentwood though. Good course for it.

^^ when and why did you stop playing???!?!?!

That's one tourney i miss not being in raleigh. It's usually well run, and i have a good ace memory from it a few years back! (Hole 15! If I missed i was OB). Also, the player's pack at the BO is usually solid, hope it still is.

I took about a 2.5-3 year hiatus from it (school, personal stuff, work, etc was all getting in the way), but I picked it back up about a year ago, and now I'm more into it than ever! Like I mentioned, sucks I can't do the BO this weekend, but I'm still trying to get in to the Swinging DB's B/C tier on the 19th/20th (and by that, I mean I'm still trying to get out of work). I still haven't gotten my backhand distance back, but it will come with time, I'm sure.

that is a good ace story btw! is 15 the one where the nasty pond backs up behind the basket?

Yes. 15 is the hole with the "swamp" behind it.

If you are thinking about playing the pdga at swinging dbs you might want to think about pre-registering. It is already over 2/3 full.

My first pdga this year will be Mooky's Cup in High Point on the 26th.

^check out http://www.discgolfcoursereview.com

it will tell you about other courses you can check out

^^I registered yesterday! Gonna go check out the course today (never been), play in the random doubles on friday afternoon (to get some opinions and see how others approach holes), and then the two day tourney! not looking forward to the drive every day, but hey, what are ya gonna do (and I'm not camping because a 30-40 minute drive isn't worth not sleeping in my own bed, having a warm shower, and not having to setup/break down camp... not to mention I have to drive 20 minutes to get my camping gear from storage anyway

Barber Park is not that bad if you have other people with you. I wouldn't want to play that course alone. There is going to be a PDGA there in late August.

There are at least 3 new courses going in somewhere in Gibsonville.

I played swinging dbs a long time ago. It was an ok course back then but I know they have done a lot of work on it since then.

I've played Barber Park probably two dozen times, a few of those up until dark, several times by myself. Only trouble I've ever had was from a fat loud mouthed 12 year old trying to start shit with catzor and me. Other than that, no problems.

[Edited on February 16, 2011 at 10:46 AM. Reason : really shitty course though]

^ I can't find it?

So, my game is confusing. I'm putting and forehanding better than ever, but I've developed a terrible habit of hunching over my hips on my backhand, causing early releases and grip locks. I've got to get this one figured out and soon!

Anyone else starting to love this weather?

yeah man- loving that doubles are back! I am getting to a point where I need to get some pointers on my backhand- I'm doing something wrong (or rather not doing something right) because I have maxed out my distance and I want to learn what I can do to fix it

how far are you throwing? what discs/weight/plastic? what lines are you taking? If you can get a video of yourself on dgcr or dgr I'm sure they can give you much better advice than me.l

there are countless great suggestions on dgcr, but offhand check out Dan Beato's videos on youtube, he's cranking out 450 with teebirds

and we just got back today from glenn c hilton, rankin lake, va du mar, lake russell, sandy creek and the idgc (nc,sc,ga)

i'm throwing a valk about 270ish, and can get my katana and vulcan about 300.... but that is on flat ground. It's frustrating because I have a friend who just picked up the game, and I got him an Avenger SS, and he is throwing it as far as me (after 2 weeks) - granted, it is the fastest I've seen anyone pick up the game, but still.... I'm trying to work more on getting my back to the target and getting more body turn, but I still feel like I'm throwing with my arm and just trying to muscle it.

Luckily, my short and mid game is getting a bunch better (thank you buzzz), but that long game still baffles me, and I'd like to have something going for me before the Ching and Zing, which is the next PDGA I'll be playing in.

my game is great for Kaplan and Middle Creek, but Cedar has a couple of holes that are just completely unreachable for me (5, 9, 13, and 18), and that is me playing from all AM pads.

on a different note, how'd you like Glenn Hilton? I have played that one several times (fiancee is from Hickory), and I love it... great change of pace

I enjoyed it,lots of birdie opportunities, but not without risk and when we played there were no other people there, a beautiful area, especially the last hole.

^^that last hole is awesome.... scared me to throw off the first time I played it, but it was covered up with kudzu, and looked like the drop after the pad was a whole lot more severe than it did the last time I was there (easter)

I hadn't heard anything of it... and I think my next two pdga's are gonna be the ching/zing and the crosstown classic (If I can find 2+ more people to sign up as rec)

My game has been weird this year.

Missed pretty much all of 2010 with a busted knee, started playing again in January/February. Played a couple of ice bowls, actually won one of them somehow, finished second in another...

PDGA tournaments started up and I sucked huge donkey balls.
First tournament in Gastonia -- 23rd out of 30 players. 914 and 895 rated rounds. Just straight up bad playing.
Second tournament down near Columbia -- 11th out of 18. Uneven play. Some good, some absolute explosions. 911, 903, 911, 937 rated rounds. A couple of 7s and 8s will destroy an otherwise good round. Had a couple of 4-putts, etc.
Third tournament in Seneca -- 6th out of 10. Generally poor play. 892, 902. Bad drives, bad putting, bad all around.

In the meantime, doubles started up down here and I started off playing pretty damn well. Lot of cash.

Fourth PDGA tournament down at the IDGC near Augusta. All of the sudden I'm good again. Best I've played in 3 years. 5th out of 32. 954, 984, 982 rated rounds. Holy shit. Confidence through the roof. And those rounds were nothing spectacular. Just solid play. Hit the lines I wanted to hit, hit the putts I wanted to hit. Don't think I made a single putt outside of 30 feet, but I missed very few from inside.
It was actually a weird feeling. For the last round and a half, I was nervous as hell wondering when the explosion was going to come. I've rarely made it through a tournament without blowing up a 7 or 8 on some hole, so I just kept expecting it to happen eventually. And it never did... Closest I got to blowing up was getting a 4 when I should have taken a 2 on the third to last hole of the tournament. Skipped a 20 foot putt off the cage and watched it roll 40 feet on the other side. Missed the first return putt, made the second, took my 4 and moved on.

Went back to doubles and blew ass for the next 3 weeks. Utter shit play. I was terrible. Couldn't putt outside of 18 feet. Couldn't drive to save my life.

And then this weekend rolls around and I take the win (over a weak field) with 960, 932, 957, 979 rated rounds. Good play in general. No blow up holes. A couple of lucky putts and lucky kicks, but a few shanked drives as well. Good putting for the most part. (Except for my 3rd and 4th hole of the tournament ... hit every fucking chain in the basket and popped out. Two in a row that early in a tournament can get in your head pretty easily, but I managed to stay steady.)

Funny story in my 3rd round. I throw one of my favorite discs, my white TL, on hole 14 and 16. Get around to hole 7 where I want to throw it again, look down at it and say, "What the fuck is this? This isn't my disc! White TL, but it's not mine. Oh shit." Did I throw from the wrong lie on 14 or 16? That would suck. It would be an incredible coincidence that another white TL was sitting in the fairway close to where mine landed, but what else could have happened? No way I switched discs with someone else during warmup, but that's the only other possibility...
So I freak out a little bit and lose focus for the next few holes. I'm nervous as shit about this probable penalty. I was only 1 stroke behind the lead going into the 3rd round and I'm beating the leader by 1 or 2 strokes...
I ask everyone I see on the course if they found a white TL on 14 or 16. During lunch, I ask more people. I go back to 14 and 16 to look for mine. Eventually I find the guy who has my disc ... "Oh, sorry Todd. I grabbed your disc out in the field during warmups!"

ah yeah, I can't make that... already have a camping trip planned :-/

They really need to start putting up events on the PDGA board sooner- that is how I schedule off from work and stuff. And apparently Charlotte has a lot of C tiers that aren't even going up there until right before that are being promoted via flyers

I did, however, just sign up for the Midtown Chiropractic Raleigh Disc Golf Championship... that should be fun- I'm not too confident about my play at Zebulon, but I am playing in the ching/zing earlier that month, so that should help. And I'm starting to feel better about buckhorn, and I feel very confident (for my division) at kaplan and cedar, so I think this could be a good tournament.
