instead of making a basketball thread this year and then a football thread later in the year (with hockey, etc. in between) I'll go ahead and make this thread
I made this now because I wanted to point out where the owner of Victoria Secret's parent company just donated a ridiculous $100 million dollars to the university. It isnt necessarily going to the athletics department, but its still a crazy huge donation.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-02-16/limited-brands-chief-donates-100m-to-ohio-state.html
Quote : | "COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The founder of Victoria's Secret parent company Limited Brands Inc. is giving a record-shattering $100 million gift to Ohio State University.
The donation from Les Wexner and the Limited Brands Foundation was announced by Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee (gee) in an e-mail Wednesday morning. Gee says the largest gift in the university's history will go mostly toward Ohio State University Medical Center and its cancer hospital and research institute.
Wexner is an alumnus of Ohio State and chairs the university's board of trustees. In a video posted on the school's website, he says he never would have started his business had it not been for the education he received at Ohio State.
Columbus-based Limited also operates Bath and Body Works and other retail chains." |
also, in athletics news, the Buckeyes could very well leapfrog a 3-loss Texas team to regain the #1 spot in the basketball rankings.
****disclaimer: fan of other schools (michigan, tennessee, etc.) dont shit on this thread with photobombs, etc. and we wont do it to your threads****

My problem is not that he roots for Ohio State. Everyone has their own agenda. My beef is with the fact that he stopped rooting for Cleveland simply because their best player skipped town. No real fan would stoop to that level. 2/16/2011 10:49:11 AM |

I never once said I dont like the Cavs anymore, I still keep up with them. I am boycotting the NBA and refuse to watch any games this season because I hate what has become of the league and how there are 5-6 "good" teams now at the expense of the smaller market teams. But you will just say its sour grapes and that I'm being a debbie downer or some shit because my team isnt good anymore, when that really has nothing to do with it. The Cavs could be 1st place in the league and I still wouldnt watch.
I may make a Cleveland Sports thread, but since the Tribe probably wont be very good (their pitching staff is horrible), the Cavs suck, and the Browns might not play again this year, I will refrain. That doesnt mean I wont be keeping up with the Indians, Cavs or Browns, it just means that I dont think its necessary to make a thread where all anyone will do is talk about how terrible the teams are.
and fwiw, I watched 75% of the Indians games last year, and plan on doing the same this year 2/16/2011 12:41:09 PM |

Im about as mad as you are clever.
Tough loss against another top 15 team on their home floor. Both losses included players playing out of their minds. Not the end of the world, I still think they are the best team in the country, but duke's overrated team will probably move to # 1.
Also it is funny to see how other fanbases are as bad as oirs after a loss. Some people are questioning Mattas ability to develop talent since they only play 7 guys. 2/20/2011 4:16:26 PM |

Yadda yadda, everyone is being investigated.
You couldve refreshed this to say the buckeyes are number 1 in both polls, or that they set an ncaa record by making 14 straight threes yesterday during their blowout of # 10 wisconsin, or how jon diebler has made 17 threes in the last two games, or how sullinger won big ten ROY, or any number of positive stories that likely aren't going to go away in a couple of months, but I guess even our faithful mod has to add fuel to the hater bandwagon 3/7/2011 8:53:43 PM |

Well that sucks, but I can definitely live with a two game suspension. I hope the ncaa doesn't come down with a heavy hand. Tressel has always been a standup guy, and his ' excuse' sounded pretty credible so I dont think he will lose his job. With the slap on the wrist mentality the ncaa has shown in what I would consider to be worse infractions by other major programs, I think things will be okay. I do give credit to osu for passing down punishment so quickly. I just really hope there isnt more to this story, I still have a ton of respect for tressel and give him the benefit of the doubt, I would hate for that to change as a result of more infractions.
Oh well, we have a basketball national championship to win, go bucks! 3/8/2011 7:34:57 PM |

1. I don't think Michigan fans should really be too cocky here since RR pulled a bunch of shit there, but the NCAA doesn't seem to care as much.
2. Tressel's defense of his actions doesn't match up with what is written in the emails. Why would he place someone's confidentiality over his school and his football team? Shit doesn't add up. 3/9/2011 12:23:07 AM |

stay classy fab five??? haha you have to bring up early 90s stuff to slam michigan?
cause one guy (webber) took money from a booster, who is no longer allowed contact with the program and michigan vacated both final four banners
see thats how you handle a problem within your school... not a bitchy 2 game suspension against cupcake teams with a major violation of fraud that sweater boy committed
oh and 375 infractions in the last 10 years for ohio state, most of any bcs school... yea id say tressel fits into THE ohio state mold now being that he has been there 10 years himself...

[packguitar], you realize that of those 375 violations (which is a lot, i'm not making light of that), most are self-reported? Were other schools self reporting at the same rate, odds are you'd see a lot of other schools in the same realm. And yes, I brought up the fab 5, but I didn't have to go back that far, I just wanted to point out the massive sanctions your team was penalized with.
Guess Michigan fans have to be bitter since their teams can't win on the court or the field. 3/9/2011 6:06:50 PM |
