Plz to vote here. NPR and PBS are so very important and they both deserve government funding.

government funding accounts for what, 5% of their budget? 2/17/2011 11:32:12 AM |
Snewf All American 63368 Posts user info edit post |
WNYC receives about 6% of their budget from the government
here is a story from On The Media about this issue

so instead of SAVE NPR, it should be PREVENT THEM FROM HAVING TO CUT THEIR BUDGETS IN A TIME WHEN EVERYONE ELSE HAS TO CUT BUDGETS 2/17/2011 11:35:35 AM |
Snewf All American 63368 Posts user info edit post |
actually the story on On The Media proposes that we should embrace the cut so that people have to shut the fuck up with their griping about public media
^ public media outlets have already tightened their belts significantly
with only 6% from federal funding the majority of the budget comes from listener/viewer donations and those have contracted during the recession 2/17/2011 11:39:19 AM |

I'll vote for their funding to stay, but I want some shows with some real reporting that's not monkeys. Bust the nuts of some politicians and you'd have all the funding you'd ever want. 2/17/2011 12:43:44 PM |

Hi my name is Kathryn, and i recently became a sustainer because well, I knew that I was going to donate every year but NPR didn't know and wasn't able to budget accordingly so i want to encourage you to become a sustainer

Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood is the single most important broadcast segment on any given day. PBS gets my money.

i only like the story w/ dick gordon. i'd rather the gov't save my husband's state job than a radio station.
re: big bird - read chapter 3 in "the tipping point" about sesame street vs blue's clues. good read.

Sooo...you want us to 'skew' the results of what is most likely a non-scientific poll in order to misrepresent the views of the populace? Can we say, waste of time? 2/17/2011 5:03:56 PM |
Snewf All American 63368 Posts user info edit post |
The Story is a co-production of American Public Media and WUNC
its not an NPR program
^ its not really a poll so it can't be skewed - it is a petition
but Tdubbers love poll skewing so I tossed that in there to get their attention
influencing popular opinion (or at least representations of it), scientific or not, is definitely not a waste of time - its how shit gets done

not like every other radio station they do a more tasteful acknowledgement of support, usually read by the presenter
plus NPR isn't a radio station2/17/2011 6:13:19 PM |

I find it funny you would like your husband, a state employee, to keep his job while you advocate laying off the jobs of other state employees.
I'm just wondering what your husband does that is of higher value than PBS and NPR?2/17/2011 7:35:15 PM |

sounds like a bad business model.
radio station that isn't a radio station. radio station that "doesn't really sell advertising" radio station that must beg, albeit even a small amount, of the State's money.2/17/2011 8:24:53 PM |

he's a service forester. he writes management plans for people so they get the most out of their trees. he also fights wildland fire & actually just monday saved someone's house from going up in flames.
i'm not sure why that's funny. it's self preservation. i'd much rather my husband keep his job than someone else. i like living in a house & eating food. ---
oh i forgot this american life. i enjoy that too. i listen via itunes/podcast/website though bc every time i turn to the damn station they're begging for money. it's way more annoying & invasive imo than gimmicky paid ads or plugs.
