This game actually has spoiler potential. With Howell's status uncertain, we might lack a big body inside which could really hurt us on the glass. Let's hope we stop UNC from getting the amount of boards they were getting the first game, then we might have a chance.

We hang around within single digits most of the game until Carolina pulls away under 4 minutes and wins by 14. 84-70.

State plays scared again to start the game just like they did in the nose dome and we get behind by double digits early. We make a couple minor runs at the end of the 1st half and mid-way through the 2nd, but utimately Henson and Zeller control the boards and UNC pulls away with FTs down the stretch. Painter fouls out with 8 minutes to go because Howell can't play.

^ you're right. Hanging with Maryland at their place for 35 minutes despite them shooting 60+ % for much of the game is not improvement. Coming out strong in the first half and scoring 40 points is not improvement.

I agree that UNC has improved recently. Their record proves that.

But I expected this to be a meltdown vs. Maryland, similar to what we saw vs. FSU and vs. Duke. We still have a lot of things to work on (team defense, smart shots, etc.) But if that wasn't improvement, I don't know what is.

Obviously UNC has improved tremendously as the year has gone on. At a lot greater rate than us (in fact, we haven't matched our play and intensity of the George Mason game since that night).
