Old thread was dead

Watched this on Netflix the other night and loved it.

There seems to be a lot of controversy about the validity of the film but regardless, it's still very obvious that Billy Mitchell is a punk ass bitch.

Steve Wiebe reclaimed the record last year but some Asian guy beat him like a month ago

Agreed. The part when Billy Mitchell came to the arcade to talk to people, he could have at least said shook the hand of the main guy. He just walked around behind him and didn't even say hi.

And not just him...all the other people in whatever organization was doing everything. They were all acting like Mitchell's little puppets the entire time. The one dude went and beat Mitchell's record in public (after beating it on video and doing even better) but all Mitchell had to do was mail in a video and they all bowed down to him.

Yeah I read about that.

He'll be back.

It's really hilarious and sad at the same time about how he has all these brainwashed minions in his corner.

lol@ the dude walking around telling people about the kill screen. I'd be kinda pissed if I were in the middle of a game and he came around bugging me about something like that.

It was of course highly edited to make Billy Mitchell look like even more of a douche than he really is. Still a good watch.

Love this movie. I actually read something that the director said that he could've made Billy Mitchell look a whole lot worse than he did, that he's actually a bigger scumbag in real life. Whether or not that's true, who knows. Either way, this movie rules.

Great movie. Supposedly Mitchell and Wiebe are friends IRL.

There is another movie out, originally shown on Showtime, but its hard to find. Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade

If you enjoyed King of Kong, you will enjoy Chasing Ghosts

Chasing Ghosts, while interesting as a doc on early arcade games, doesn't have anywhere near the charm of King of Kong or the "drama" that exists in KoK.

Still good, just don't expect something that is equal.

The best part was when the guy's daughter basically called him a loser while they were on their way to the arcade.

from IMDB
Quote :
"On August 7 2010, Bill Mitchell regained the Donkey Kong record with a score of 1,062,800. It took him 2hrs and 42min of playing. After passing Hank Chien's point level, Mitchell stopped playing rather than adding to his record breaking score. He remarked, "Some say I'm being cocky. Some say I'm being lazy. I say I'm being Billy Mitchell."
Link this trivia

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As of September 20, 2010 Steve Wiebe is now the World Record Holder at 1,064,500"

and then according to wikipedia
Quote :
"This was broken by Hank Chien in January 2011, with a score of 1,068,000"

the thing that confuses me is that while watching the movie, i assumed billy had just lost his touch with the game and didn't want to publicly display his slump.

But then you read about how he regained the high score record not long after, so he is obviously still talented at it.

i guess it still goes back to him just not wanting to publicly lose in front of someone.

And I agree, the guy that kept going around the funspot telling people about the potential kill screen was very very annoying.

Billy Mitchell tells you everything you need to know about him without saying a word. Near the end, there's a scene where Billy and Steve Sanders are sitting in a booth together. Sanders is asked about Steve Wiebe, and says that he believes Wiebe is a stand-up guy and a great player.

The look on Billy Mitchell's face during that answer says it all.
