I've always thought the song was meh

it will be nice to hear Dre again though. Been way too long.

Watching that video does fill me with a lot of nostalgia though. Now, I am convinced that I need to get a porche, and a HP. Also, I need to contract AIDS.

Is it just me or is basically every Dre song about how much he hates rapping and how much he wants to quit?

Yes, I think that he has threatened us a couple of times.

But that's what gangsters do. They threaten people.

i liked how eminem angrily raps him out of a coma, and then dr. dre starts lifting weights while making vague references to people who are no longer his friends.

I was constantly talking about firearms because I was under the impression that he had exchanged those in his possession for monetary compensation.

Its seems I was mistaken.

this song is way better than what I thought would wind up coming out of the "Detox" album. I figured Dre was going to over-produce and over-critique the album to the point that it would be garbage. I really like this song.

Dr. Dre is jacked as shit, I knew he had gotten into shape, but it looked like he was wearing an Arnold Schwarzenegger suit.

Also, I've read some shit where people claim that Eminem wrote Dre's verse, which I dont really get.

anyways, solid track

I recall the time I once sent him hate mail proclaiming his fall from grace in the rap community.

Turns out, he was just in his laboratory with a mere pen and paper tablet trying with fervor and diligence to attain success for his recording and distribution company!

Silly me. TOTALLY thought he had just fallen out of favor with his peers.

Your son dies, your friends, producers and professional colleagues all bail on you.

Yea, you can be in a pit of despair.

Money doesn't buy happiness isn't a saying for no fucking reason.

There's a long history of Dre's verses being written by other people. Em's been doing it since Chronic 2001.

The new Dre songs are complete garbage - as someone said, they sound like leftovers from "Recovery". They're almost as bad as Lupe's new album. gracious, the whole genre is pumping out a bunch of shit these days. If you had told me 10 years ago that there would be a point in time when I would actively dislike everything put out by Dre, Snoop, and Em, I'd have thought you're crazy. But sadly, it's true.

At least my homies Pill, Rittz the white rapper, Big Krit, and Curren$y are giving me hope. new south, yes lawd!

^^ i know, right?? i loved "the cool" and "food and liquor", but his new one is pretty rough. it leaked a couple of days ago. he went euro-pop on it, heavy techno production. and to top it off, there's a track with trey songz. freaking trey songz. could not have been more disappointed. maybe it will grow on me, but i seriously doubt it. lyrically it isn't that awful, but musically it sounds like he's trying to cater to brazilian teenagers. i saw someone post that it was lupe's "nastradamus". my take is that it's his "808 and heartbreaks". either way, he could've done better

Hate to derail the thread, but
^ Most people I've heard have either really loved LASERS, or hated it. Doesn't seem to be much in between. What it sounds like happened is the label got involved and forced to put some songs on the album that he probably would not have put on there himself. He says "The Show Goes On" is pretty much the label's song. I guess after all the issues with trying to get the album released, he just gave in to what the label wanted. I've only heard Show Goes On, Words I Never Said, and All Black Everything...I like those songs pretty good. But I haven't downloaded the leak. He's one of my favorite artists so I hope he's not changing his style too much...The Cool and F&L were great.

^^ let's continue to derail i would agree that those three songs aren't bad, but they're probably the best three songs on the album. and man, there are a few on there that are absolutely unbearable. i'm not trying to hate too much, because lupe is an amazing lyricist, but there are some REAL head-scratchers - and it's not just the john legend song and "show goes on", which are the two he specifically pointed out as songs the label asked him to do. i dunno, like i said, maybe it will grow on me!

^I don't know if I'd be able to stand it if I don't like this album. I've been waiting for this album for too long. The songs "I'm Beamin" and "Shining Down" that were leaked last year off the original version of LASERS were very good IMO...

maybe I missed something, but I didn't care for Cudi's first album

I'm starting to think that Trey Songz might be the new Nate Dogg in that a rapper cannot release an album without him on at least 1 hook.

^^^ "Float On" by The Floaters? interesting, i didn't catch that, i can hear some sort of similarity though

So about Dre - saw an interview with Just Blaze where he's excited about the release of Detox. If Just Blaze was a part of the project, and excited about it, I'll def give it a listen. Just hope "I Need A Doctor" and "Kush" aren't entirely indicative of the album.

And about him being old - I agree, he's too old to be rapping about weed and guns. But what I wish these older rappers would do is cater to an older rap fan vs. trying to make music for 14 year-olds. There's a generation of people in their late 20's/30's who grew up on Dre, Outkast, Tribe, etc and are still rap fans - and who would purchase grown-folk rap if these guys would make it. Oddisee has a great song called "Different Now" in which he talks about growing up - nothing wrong with that, playa! (disclaimer, I'm on the other side of 30 now...old as hell)

No. They won't purchase it. Get real. This is 2011 and nobody buy's CD's. There have got to be less than 10 platinum albums a year now.

Quote :

The label is financing him making songs that will probably lose money, and then they asked him to make a couple that have a chance of commercial success. You people are living in fantasy land. Singles sort of sell, on i-tunes.

The economic reality is that if artists want a major label recording deal, they need to make singles that a large group of people want to buy and/or hear on the radio, just like in the 50s and early 60s before Sergeant Pepper came out.

^You're right about the label need to make money. I'm not arguing that. The label has an investment (Lupe Fiasco in this case) and they need to make money from that artist. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. And I actually like "Show Goes On", I think it's a good song. I just hope that Lupe does not have to change his style too much...I really liked The Cool and F&L. But I do understand that the label must get money out of their investment.
