I am truly shocked that we have any chance at getting in the NIT. But I'm only saying this out of utter disappointment. I would like to have some post-season basketball to watch.

at least we'll have some kind of post season. :/

we could probably improve our seeding a bit with a few more wins.

We don't need to worry about the bubble for the NIT or NCAA. All we need to do is create another post-season tournament, and invite only ourselves and one other team. We just have to make sure that other team is a bottom feeder in one of the worst conferences, or maybe a high school or women's team. NCSU will return to glory, mark my words.

It worked out pretty good for us the first 13 years the ACCT was in Reynolds! Let's petition the ACC to move the tournament back to Reynolds.

Looks like Maryland, Miami, and Clemson have bumped us out of the bubble watch in the latest projections. I think we get in with a win over both Maryland and Duke.

If we win Thursday and lose Friday, we'll finish 16-16 (5-11). UNC got in the NIT last year with the exact same record. But they're UNC and we're not.

Do you guys really want to make it to the NIT? I see one of the following scenarios playing out if we do:

1. We barely squeak in as one of the "last teams in" and promptly get destroyed by a random mid-major team. If we somehow make it in, I am 95% sure we don't make it past the 2nd round.

2. We barely squeak in as one of the "last teams in" and make a run at the NIT Championship, and then people magically forget how horrible of a season this was, and somehow convince themselves that Sid should stay around for another year. Highly improbable, but we all remember Sid's first year here, and our epic ACC Tournament run, and our subsequent shattered hopes and dreams as each year after we pretty much took a step backwards.

I personally have no desire to watch this sorry excuse of a team play another game. We're going to lose in the first round of the ACC Tournament, and that really needs to be the end of NCSU basketball for 2010-2011. Lowe tries, but sometimes your best is not enough, and his clearly is not. Hell, if it even appeared that our team was giving full effort, I would want to see them play some post season ball, but we don't.

Also as much as it pains me to say this the sooner the season is over the more likely we get a jump on the coaching search. It would be nice to have a jump start on the other teams who will be undergoing a coaching change this year.

i wonder if Lowe just wants it to be all over instead of getting into the NIT and still having to suffer thru all the same media BS surrounding his job security after it's over

riiight, the former player who was told to never give up by the late Coach V who wasn't supposed to win the ACCT, much less the NCAAT, is gonna lay down now and lose on purpose because he's suffering from media speculation

I know it hurts that nobody gives a fuck about your thread Ernie. This is actually your best effort at a coherent thought in Sports Talk, but alas, it still sucks. I figure you're probably still butthurt over the fact that you got passed over for Sports Talk moderator as well, but it would probably behoove the posters in Sports Talk for the moderator to actually know a little about sports.

I know this hurts. TWW is your life. Making "points" that nobody else agrees with is pretty much all you've got. That, and hating on religion, which incidentally you're also not very good at. I'll leave your NIT bubble thread alone, because you need something to cling to.

What's so retarded about this thread?

Should we just ignore the fact that we're on the NIT bubble?

I can understand why you might not like that fact that we might make it to the NIT, but just ignoring the fact that it's a possibility is pretty FeebleMinded.

Also, it's a good thing you decided to bold the R in "retarded", otherwise someone as FeebleMinded as yourself might have missed what you were going for there.

You're probably the first person to ever think to insult me using my user name.

The whole point is, who gives a fuck about the NIT Bubble? It's like being a high school senior and playing on the junior varsity team, and being excited about it. It's embarrassing.

In case you haven't realized it, we play in the ACC. The last time I checked that's a pretty big basketball conference. Our goal should be an NCAA bid every year, and anything less is absolutely unacceptable. The NIT is designed so that all those mid-major and smaller schools that finish like 20-10 but don't win their conference tourney can have a shot to play in the post season. IMO, teams from the major conferences shouldn't even get invited, because with their (our) national exposure, prestige, etc it should really be NCAA or nothing.

Maybe you are excited and anxious to see us as an 8 seed in the shittiest tournament there is, but as it turns out, we have more pressing issues as a fan base to think about.... you know, the coaching search thing, and oh yeah, the possible exodus of players from NCSU.

You're right. Why would I (as a fan) want our younger players to gain more game experience by playing? Why would I (as a fan) want to root for something that I get to actually watch?

As a fan what I should really be doing is giving my all to the coaching search. Someone get the FAA on the phone. Wolfpack Nation needs to track some airplanes!

You get Leslie, Harrow, and Brown on the phone. As a fan you need to tell them how much you want them to play here despite that fact that you don't actually want to watch them play in game(s) there work this season qualified him for.

I find it ironic that you're trying to mock my intelligence when you can't even figure out the difference between "there" and "their." But for the remainder of this discussion I'll just pretend you simply made a mistake and you actually are on top of 3rd grade grammar.

But to get back on point, I REALLY don't think one extra game of getting humiliated is going to develop our young players any more than the other 31 games of embarrassment have done. And honestly, with the lack of hustle our "stars" show on a routine basis, watching NCSU games is less than enjoyable. I can accept being shitty while giving 100%, but from what I've seen, Sidney Lowe is the only person on the court giving 100% for NCSU.

Everybody here hates UNC so much, but do you really think that they were at all excited to make it to the NIT's last year? Do you think that they were all perched on the edge of their collective seats wondering what NIT seed they would be? No, they didn't give a fuck, and do you know why? Because that school is used to winning. I fucking hate UNC, but one thing I can say about them is they do not accept losing. Under no circumstances... NONE, would an NIT berth or even an NIT Championship be acceptable. But yet we at NCSU are so used to losing that we actually get excited to play some postseason basketball.

They've won two titles in the past five years, we've won zero in nearly 30 years. Comparing our expectations to their expectations is laughable.

I guess the tongue in cheek nature of this thread went over your head completely. Sorry about that, I'll be more obvious in the future. Playing in the NIT or the CBI or whatever shit tournament isn't the NCAA isn't something to get excited about, but in no way would it have hurt our program or our players. Temper your expectations, maybe, and you won't get so butthurt in the future.

Ernie I really do think you are an argumentative douche nozzle, but in all seriousness, I hate that any NCSU fan has this attitude. I totally realize we have sucked for a long time, and it is really easy to give in to the attitude that UNC is just destined to be better and have higher expectations. But for me, I just can't buy into that. We should be winning right now.... we have a very good team talent-wise, but despite a lot of enthusiasm by the coach, it somehow does not translate to the team. Our players don't hustle, their fundamentals are poor, and the games just aren't fun to watch.

If we were in the Atlantic 10, or the Horizon, or the Patriot Conference, I think being in the NIT every year, mixed in with an occasional NCAA bid would be on par with expectations. But we are not, we are in the mother fucking ACC. We're half an hour from two of the greatest college basketball programs in history, and we claim to be their rivals. I have no reason to temper my expectations. We have an awesome team (from a talent standpoint), a coach who has built the program the way HE wants it. We should expect, and be satisfied with nothing short of an NCAA bid, and at least 2 wins. If we as a team wanted to temper our expectations, then we should have stayed with Herb. At least with him, we were somewhat competitive, and had a legitimate shot at the NCAA each year. But we as a fanbase were not satisfied with this mentality, because we want what every school wants, a championship.

Stopped reading your post here

Quote :

Because I never said or implied that. UNC and any other top-tier program is miles, miles, miles ahead of us right now. Of course we can get back, but it's still a long road ahead. One step at a time, and an NIT berth is at least positive step in that direction.

I didn't want an NIT berth in October, of course. But right now, considering what how things turned out, why the fuck not.

Let me know if the rest of your post is less misguided than the part I quoted and maybe I'll check it out.
