Old but no thread. Anyway, it's the best of the financial crisis documentaries I've seen so far. I highly recommend it!

It drags for a teeny moment and then picks right back up with some of the more confrontational/tense scenes in the film. It also provides a really good explanation of the different instruments that supposedly surpass our average mental capacities.

Some of you may already be familiar with all this stuff, but if you're still curious, you gotta check it out!

If you've already seen it, what did you think?

I thought Clive Owen was good, but it felt like Denzel kind of mailed it in, not one of his best performances.

6/10

AHA, I haven't seen Inside Man, and at 6/10, it sounds like I made the right choice.

While I'm posting, I'll correct my title: it should say just Inside Job with no The. I always ruin everything.

Fuck that, Inside Man was one of Spike Lee's best. 8/10 at the least.

I tried watching The Inside Man six to eight times, but I always lost interest after the initial scenes.

As for Inside Job, I expect to watch it by the end of the weekend, so I'll check back with this thread.

I loved Iron Man 1 & 2, but heard that Jon Favreau won't be back to direct #3.

I watched half of it last night. I like the way they explain things so anyone with half a brain can understand it. Most of the stuff I already knew about like how subprime mortgages sent us crashing down. I'll finish it tonight.

Had to download this since it wasn't on instant watch.

I love that theater. Never too crowded.

But they got that church that rents them out so they stay in business.

Finally got a chance to watch it.

***SEMI-SPOILER STUFF, MAYBE?***

Pretty good documentary. I mean it covered what happened in 08 pretty well, and was able to give the basics of CDOs and CDSs. I didn't like the antagonization of the entire financial services industry towards the end of the movie, rather than a focus on villainizing the few IBs that went out of their way to push these products. Yes, GS, BS, ML, etc. acted unethically, and the big 3 ratings firms were sucked in, but the other large IBs that came away largely unscathed were able to do so by dumping their CDO game when the risks were exposed. Questioning the wrongness of these other companies keeping their findings quiet, is strictly a matter of opinion. You wouldn't punish a firm for not exposing a risk that their competitors seem to be unaware of. Ahhmurica doesn't punish capitalism. The other IBs made a killing off the screw-ups, and the investors of the screw-ups suffered. But that's business.

I could've done without the exposé feel at the end where they were making mountains of every mole hill they found. They made derivatives seem like the devil, and even screwed up on their facts when trying in insinuate that collateralized debt obligations = credit derivative obligations.

If I was about get into the financial services industry on my own, I'd definitely be headed the traditional partnership route and create leverage through proprietary trading, rather than hassle with idiot investors who want to be lied to.

AHA, I LOVE THE EXPOSE FEEL!

SPOILER?

Watching those guys from Columbia and whatnot get pwned was THE BEST!!!! I was going along just starting to get bored, and then it was like, "OH SNAPS!!!!!" OMG, those guys were so obviously guilty, but they were arrogant/delusional enough to think this documentary wanted them for their professional and academic insight. Watching Mishkin dance and Hubbard sneer...it was awesome!

You have three more minutes

I do agree that some parts were played up, but all in all it was a great documentary.
