Kinda like being given a trophy for a race yet to be run."

Beyond the service academy rivalries, the who has the bigger dick service arguments are stupid.

Each one has a purpose. If you want to be a soldier, join the Army. If you want to be a Marine, join the Marine Corps. Jokes aside, I have never understood why some have to obsess and argue over which is better.

Knowing the marines can't legally touch me hard enough to leave a mark, makes ignoring them 1000 times easier.

...Which is stupid mainly because when you're captured by enemies, they don't have that policy.

The drill sergeant not being able to physically touch recruits is bullshit, they would regularly grab people, push them against a wall by the throat, grab dog tags, etc. By touch, they basically just cant hit someone.

Looks like they took coed Ft. Wood video and compared it to male only Marine reception. Ft. Benning reception is a bit different for sure... Overall though, Marine reception is still a bit rougher no doubt, just not to the extreme shown in that video.

and lets not forget, that enlisted and officer "boot camp" is also quite different.

in itself, enlisted boot camp for marines is hard as hell. its crazy what they go through and yea, some things like they cant hit u is one. but if they "move you"/push or throw you somewhere, its for instructional purposes.

at marine corps OCS (officers), the training is more intense because they require more physical abilities and mental ability since your supposed to be the best and have college degrees.
however, they dont go crazy on you as much. but i did see some things that simply was a way to weed out those who shouldnt have made it.

the army even tried doing a boot camp/ocs where there was no yelling or "hazing" or whatever. and it actually failed quite badly.

One time I was hanging out with some marines when we came across a bunch of Naval Sailors, and we got drunk and pissed up their car for no reason.

The videos of Ft Leonard Wood are taken out of context. The uniform and gear issue in reception is done by civilians, so of course they are not going to be yelling and screaming. Also, the week spent in reception didnt really count towards basic, so it was slightly less stressful, I dont agree with that, but its how it was done. "Boot Camp" or basic technically started on zero day, when they loaded you up into cattle trucks, drove you to your company, and then you "met" your drill sergeants. That day was exactly the same as the stuff in the Marine videos, they yell and scream, and pull people off the truck, then form the company in the PT pit and smoke the shit out of you for the rest of the day. I was well prepared for basic, and I still felt adequately challenged, the sleep deprivation really kicked my ass.

Im not trying to have a branch dick measuring contest, Im just putting the Army video in context.

Civilians during basic come in two breeds. The first is the asshole, who is usually 100lbs overweight, this civilian is a power hungry douche bag who think he/she is a drill sgt and is deserving of that respect. The second, well, the second usually is some senile old person who isn't quite aware of whats going on, usually super nice.

Fareako's brother wanted to join the marines but was originally denied because he had a dimebag darrell tattoo...so he walked across the hall and signed up for Army Rangers...almost got kicked out of that because he was color blind so he went medic.

Not sure what he's up to now at Fort Bragg, but he replied to my video with this one:

OCS with Marines is no joke, They really expect you to get perfect physical scored before you enter, plus the 6 months of OCS training and the extra 6-12 months of added specialty training to whatever field you are going to be placed. Pipe dream, maybe I'll apply again next year.

you could do medics with the navy, bust your ass and be a corpsman (corpsman are navy medical guys who detach to marines and go with them everywhere.
or
go air force or army medics.

realistically, each service has some special group thats bad ass. pretty much the generic marine though is better than most generic army or air force or navy or coast gaurd.
every marine is a rifleman.
^as you mentioned yea, you could go to naval academy, OCC or PLC programs. then you do 6 months of TBS which is 6 months of the basic infantry officer. so every single marine officer can take a platoon and go into battle with them. Then unless you were JAG (lawyer) or an air contract....you are fighting for a bunch of ground MOSs (jobs). if you get what you want, then you go to that respective MOS training. the 6 months of TBS is said to be like 2 years at a good college with about 18 hours each semester. and about half the of the 6 months is in the field and the other half is in classes. I have a stack of publications and books that fill a whole cardboard box.
If your a combat MOS then cool, like recon or infantry guys are thought to be the only ones who hit combat. almost every marine could be doing his job in combat. ground supply, logistics, truck drivers, air maintenance and air support are all jobs that can be done in forward operating bases and anyone could be grabbed to fill a spot of patrols and whatnot.
Pilots are the ones who get the longest training before we hit the fleet but even then, we fly some and then can do a few years as something like a forward air controller which will be with the infantry.
This is because the job the Marines are supposed to fill, is an expeditionary force, quick response and ready anytime, anywhere, as well as the presidents own (at his discretion) and to act as a security force for US assets (embassies and navy bases). we are a smaller force and are part of the department of the navy because we dont have the means to do the armys job (being in country for long periods)

However, the army is meant to be a larger land force and needs so much support that they need a lot of army individuals and different jobs to cover all the aspects of what an army needs.
So yes, there is a shit ton of army soldiers who are discusting and couldnt do half what the worst marine can do. but they do have delta force, rangers, and more tanks and special units like sappers and so on and so on. plus they just have more of them. they have a bigger budget too.

The navy is the same, they cant make everyone be awesome cause there are too many of them and most just have to be good enough to float away from a sinking ship. its cause they need so many people with so many different jobs.
same with air force.

As far as I know, every marine has to qualify with their assault rifle and be a proficient marksman. To what degree I do not know. This is so that every marine can pick up his rifle and be an expert with it.

One of the squadrons from Cherry Point was tasked with defending one section of their base in afganistan and in the middle of the night, insurgents attacked when the pilots were on duty. The squadron repelled the assault with noo casualties because they were all trained riflemen
