I'm not technically savvy, so let me get that on the table first and foremost.

I've got a Netgear N (or G) 2.4 router. It's password protected and I can log on just fine. Problem is, periodically, my signal will just drop, even if I'm right beside it. Most times it will automatically log me back on, but it can often take a few minutes once it drops.

It's frustrating as hell and I'd like to fix it if at all possible. I've tried unplugging the router and restarting it, but that hasn't done anything. Same thing has happened to my wife on her laptop, so it's not just mine.

Any help would be great.

Do you have ice, a toothbrush, and some baking soda? I think I may have a work-around.

If it really is an N antenna, do you have all three antennas plugged in?

do you have a cordless phone or don't you?

EMCE is asking if you have a 2.4ghz cordless phone because he's wondering about interference

but you don't have a cordless phone

and your cordless phone is 2.4ghz

What channel is the radio set to?
If you do a scan, what channels are your neighbors on?
Have you tried to change the channel?
In addition to some cordless phones, microwaves can wreak havoc on a wireless network, even over long distances if the microwave is old or is leaking.

walkman, I believe the poster is referring to his wireless router as being 2.4GHz, and stating that he has no cordless phone.

Do you have any other computers in the house that have the same problem? What do the log files say on the router? Does your computer do this on other wireless networks?

Essentially what I'm driving at, do you know the issue is confined to the router or confined to the computer, and how did you come to that conclusion?
