Is this a serious question?

is it a government owned hospital or is the actual employer a government entity? that's all that matters. for ncsecu it either needs to be local or state gov't, though they treat local employees differently than state... don't ask me how, but they do. 3/31/2011 7:35:36 PM |

I am actually leaving NCSECU and switching to BB&T. I have had awful customer service lately with SECU and am just tired of it. I have banked with them since I was 15 years old. I have requested to get a copy of the 41 checks I wrote in 2010 and they have informed me that it will costs $41 to do this. It will be automatically deducted from my account so I'll be taking my moola elsewhere. 3/31/2011 9:17:19 PM |

I've always wondered why people were ape of the credit union. They have good rates on loans, but it seems like they more than make up for it in fees. And their online leaves a lot to be desired when compared to a BB&T or Wachovia/Wells Fargo.
I guess every bank has their +'s and -'s. 3/31/2011 9:20:14 PM |

SECU doesn't give you access to digital copies of your checks online? I thought that was pretty much standard with banks now (First Citizens has had it for years). 3/31/2011 9:22:01 PM |

You realize you can get this from online banking right?3/31/2011 9:22:41 PM |

I have online banking and use it diligently. I actually stopped receiving paper statements so I don't have a physical copy.
I can look at previous statements online but these do not show what the checks were written for. Just the amount and the check number.
I can also look up checks that go back 120 days. But I want all the way back to January and that costs $1 per check.
Also on an additional note, I had been considering a switch for a while. The check issue was just the straw that broke the camel's back. My husband and I have our house mortgage and my car loan (better rate than SECU) are through BB&T.

You realize it costs money for them to look up and print out checks for you right? I'd rather you pay for the privilege than they do it for free and give me less return on my savings account (b/c the money has to come from somewhere). 3/31/2011 9:34:16 PM |

I do not mind at all to pay to get them printed. But $1 per damn check is insane. They were able to tell me every check number and the month it was written so I don't see why a pdf file couldn't be sent. I'll print it. How hard can it be to click on an account and get the info from 41 checks. 3/31/2011 9:35:35 PM |

do they not scan in all checks like other banks? if so, it would cost about $0.20 to retrieve and send the file 3/31/2011 9:36:28 PM |

I'm not sure what exactly they looked at. I had called during my lunch break and gave the request. They said if the amount of checks wasn't very high then it could be done in the local branch. If I had an insane amount of checks it would have to be mailed to me. I checked in at 3pm to pick them up and they said 41 was too many.
It is just insane that with the online banking I can only visually see the copy of my checks that are less than 120 days old.
It would seem that my old statements (which I can go look back for years) would contain a copy of the checks there. I was so insanely frustrated when I finally left.
41 checks for 12 months does not seem like a lot of checks.
^^^^ They do have the digital copies but only those within the past 120 days.

^^^ Haha, yeah I was gonna comment that they're likely only getting rid of free checking for you bastards with no money
I've got my mortgage and most of my $$ with them and haven't received notice of any changes to my checking.
^^ It may seem like a simple request to you. But having worked on software systems for financial companies, they're rarely very flexible. If its anything like the scanned docs we do at my company, they probably have to look each one up individually by your account # and print it out. And the document systems aren't really made for speed of extraction.

I am actually leaving USAA and switching to Woodforest National Bank. How they expect me to drive to San Antonio to deposit 41 checks is just insane. Speaking of checks...what do you mean I only get TWO boring styles to choose from unless I want to have them automatically deducted from my account? I have also been informed that I will only get reimbursed for $15.00 in ATM fees this month despite the fact that it's only two withdrawals worth at the strip club! And what in the hell gives them the right to make my direct deposit available a day early? How am I supposed to know when and how often to schedule my complimentary automatic bill pay?! With Woodforest National Bank, I know my moola is protected in Sam Walton's own FDIC verified personal safe. Plus I never have to worry about whether or not I can find a branch on vacation or wonder if I have time to get milk and a haircut. It's banking my way...Every Day and Night! 3/31/2011 9:56:35 PM |

Actually, it's just SECU, not NCSECU. NC on the website is to differentiate it from other state's SECUs.
Checks are not a dollar per check. Research items are a dollar per page, and you can put 3 check images on a page. And good luck with another bank if you think SECU fees are high! 4/1/2011 2:40:32 AM |
ashley_grl All American 4051 Posts user info edit post |
It'd be awesome if I had been told otherwise. $1 per page (with several checks on each page) would be reasonable and I would not have a problem at all. I was told by two people at the bank that it was $1 per check. Those two could have easily been wrong.
When I asked her to just look up several specific checks and was informed that it would just "take too long" I was done. Wading through thousands of checks would be an issue but my number is small. My hubby got the same information, no questions ask, at no cost in about 10 minutes from BB&T. It could just be a local branch advantage but it is one that I'm going to take. 4/1/2011 5:12:26 AM |

The fees at ncsecu are a lot cheaper than they are at other banks and the gap continues to widen with all the money grab tactics banks are employing these days.
The only true complaint I'd have is that the interest rates on savings, CDs, etc. have completely tanked. It's not even worth having a savings account, but again the rates are still worse at other banks.
You can get digital scans of any check that's within a 120 period. That's been covered itt. I guess it might be a good idea to save a local copy of the scan for your own records when you reconcile your account each month. 4/1/2011 10:05:31 AM |
