When you have someone staying over do you feel like you should be the first one up so they don't feel awkward being alone(ish) in your house, or do you just sleep till whenever and not care?

Does that change when you are at someone else's house?

I have realized I feel like I should be the first one up in either case because I feel rude if a guest or a host is up and about and waiting on me to wake up. But when I have people over I don't begrudge them at all if they sleep longer than I do, so as usual people probably don't care nearly as much as I imagine they do either way.

If I'm the host I feel like I should be up first...
But that's b/c if I'm the guest, I always wait until I hear "noise" in the house before I get up. If I don't hear anything, I assume everyone is still sleeping and I lay there longer.

If I host I make sure I'm up first with breakfast. Unless its some skank. Then I just tell her to leave and go back to sleep

I don't like to be up first when staying at someone's house... it feels weird. However, I don't care if my houseguests get up before me. I usually show them how to work the living room TV and where there's some fruit/granola bars/beverages/etc in case they get hungry before I'm up to make breakfast.

Yeah I always feel awkward being the first one awake....unless of course it's someone's house that I'm comfortable at. Like if I'm staying with one of my best friends. I have no problem waking up first, making breakfast, watching tv.

Situation A isn't an issue because my daughter will be up between 7:00am. and 7:04 a.m. every day.

Situation B, if i'm really close friends with them, I make myself at home and get up whenever i want. Otherwise, i do the 'wait till i hear noise' before getting up deal.

itt I learn that I need to make more noise when I have guests so they know I'm up.

If I'm comfy enough to have someone stay in my house I'm comfy enough that they can get up whenever they dang please. And I expect them to make themselves at home. Find something in the kitchen and eat it or cook it and eat it. I get up when I wake up.

The only exception to this rule would be a family member (like grandma or an aunt) - on those occasions I'd like to be up at a reasonable time. I say reasonable because 7 is early for me, and by this time they've already been up, to the store, and they're on their 2nd pot of coffee and the news rerun.

My house guest situations are almost exclusively friends staying with me or me staying at a friends, so it's not that big of a deal to me. Regardless, I'm usually the first one up and unless there's somewhere we're supposed to be, I let them sleep. I just read the news/blogs/bullshit on my computer until they get up.

Same here. I expect people, if they are early risers, to turn the TV on, eat some food, etc..

Although I naturally wake up earlier if someone is over.

I often wake up first if I'm at someone else's house.

I'll usually make one attempt at falling back to sleep if I don't hear anything, then if that doesn't work in 5 minutes or so I'll go watch TV (not loudly obviously).

I don't really have to be that familiar with them and don't feel like it's impolite. I mean I just slept at their house, would they really think it's rude to watch TV?

hmmm. I don't have this problem. I guess having three small kids running around the house scares away any potential houseguests

I am typically the first one up first anyway. But if I weren't, I would probably feel obligated to be.

When I am staying with someone, I usually just lay in bed awake until I hear someone else get up.

If I am host and I am up first, I will go to the guest bedroom and get in bed with said guest. Lying on my side with my face 6 inches away from theirs, I will breathe heavily and loudly until they wake up.

If I am up second and I hear them making noise I will yell things like "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" and "GOD DAMNIT I'M TRYING TO SLEEP!" from my bed until the noise stops.

If I am a guest and I wake up first I will do the same thing I would do if I was a host up first, except if the host is a couple, I will spoon them until they both wake up.

If I am a guest and the host wakes up first, I will play dead in my room all day until the host freaks out and calls 911. When the paramedics get there I will wake up and yell "SURPRISE! GOTCHYA!" then we will skip and laugh into the sunset.

I prefer to sleep until they've prepared me breakfast both as the guest and the host. And if they make me breakfast too early, I keep sleeping, and they make it again later.

depends on whose place your sleeping at and how well you know them. usually im talking to them about the next day to see their plans. but i do get annoyed if i have a schedule the next day that relies on them a little and they sleep in just because. but in a general sense its not a big deal especially if ur friends

I also like to leave mysterious liquids on the bathroom floor and around the sink, and write REDRUM in lipstick on the mirror. I then enter into a fit of screaming mostly incoherent babbling with an occasional DON'T thrown in. Then I rip the shower curtain off, wrap myself like a burrito, and pass out in the closet, urinating on myself several times throughout the night. In the morning I act like everything is fine and peachy, as a cheerfully make a bagel.

Bed/wake up times are to be established by host/guest prior to bed time on the first night.

If I'm the host I should be up first, but I usually tell my guests around what time I usually get up. If I'm the guest I don't get up first but at the first sound of people up and about I get up. I'm a really light sleeper

if hosting i try to be up first

if a guest, i wait til i hear someone wake up.

only exception is when i'm at my in-laws. most of the time i get out of bed when i hear they are awake, but i don't hesitate anymore to get up even if they aren't and just make myself at home.

But when my mom stays, she is ALWAYS up before me. And she makes coffee/tea, breakfast, and tidies up. I used to feel guilty but now I don't mind and I wake up to the smell of bacon

agreed

the worst is when you have a guest over who sleeps in til like 11 or 12 (which a couple of my old deadbeat high school friends would do) and you have to go in and try to wake them up - especially if you wanna go out and do something. Or even worse, you wake them up and have to wait another hour for them to shower and get dressed before you can go out

I have trouble sleeping, so I will sleep whenever I can and for as long as I can

that could mean I woke up at 6am and was the first one awake (like this morning) or I didn't fall asleep until 5am and stayed in bed until 11:30am (like the day before)
