so somewhere in small print in my recent Sprint paper statement which I don't even get since I'm signed up paperless online is a footnote that says no more corporate discount with SERO plans........ugh.....

so now I have to choice but to either switch to the new plans (assuming corporate discount still applies) and get a new phone this week

any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

^heard that. With the new any cell anytime thing I used like 42 minutes last month

And one of the few plans with true unlimited data. Relevant only when I have to tether for work.

Sometimes I miss SERO, but I can't complain how my account turned out after switching for the Evo.

$135/mo after discount and taxes

Everything Data 1500
HTC Evo [TEP, $10 Premium Data, Any 3 Unlimited,
HTC Hero [TEP, $0 Premium Data]

HTC TP2 [Free and Clear $0.00/mo add a line, Unlimited Data/Text/7pm N&W, .69c/min otherwise]
Airvana 3G Femtocell [$0.00/mo, uses plan minutes]

1. What's the best phone out there today that is still allowed on SERO? Is it still just the HTC TPC2? No android phones?

2. If I were to switch off SERO, what's the best plan and phone?

SERO now allows non-4G android phones and pre/pixi. It's been that way for a while.

Blackberries are now also included without the buy up.

Staying on the SERO I'd go with a BB Bold (I'm a fan) or a pre. The pixi is a very nice phone - the keyboard is straight MONEY - but it's a little underpowered. If you're wanting to play on android there's the moment (keyboard) and the Hero (no keyboard). Otherwise you'll need to step up to 4G land. In both android cases pay up for full insurance. They're prone to weird software issues that they'll fix for free.

If someone talked me off of SERO it would be for something 4G, and it'd be on the $69.99 unlimited everything. Probably an EVO, EVO shift, or if the galaxy 4G has GPS issues resolved I'd go with that.

problems? questions? dmidkiff is who you want to talk to.

To my knowledge you can get any phone on sero, for the 4g plans you just have to be on sero premium which like an extra 10$.

I'll find out whenver I buy my evo3d

ok, went to the sprint store today to narrow down phones and pretty much will go back and get the phone on monday.

i've narrowed down to these, but can't decide. any opinions?
Evo - largest screen is nice, thin, but miss having a keyboard
Evo Shift - smaller screen, thicker, has keyboard
Samsung Epic - almost like the Evo Shift but with a slightly larger screen
HTC Arrive - Windows based

I'm leaning towards Evo or Epic.

PRE3 might be out on sprint soon (weeks)

it will have a big screen so you can fit in with the jones's and a slide out keyboard. if youve never had a touchscreen keyboard on a phone you may want to reconsider. my gf switched from a berry to a samsung fascinate and she hates the thing. in the platforms defense the samsung fascinate is a POS. i dont think i would recommend a samsung phone.

^The Pre3 is almost definitely coming to AT&T, too.

But I just need it on Sprint. And I'm waiting patiently until it does.

Evo 3D is the way to go, and it's definitely will come out with Sprint, unlike the Pre 3.

If you are accustomed to a keyboard and use your phone for email and messaging the notification system webos has is hard to beat. If it were me....I would wait. I think you're going to really hate the touchscreen keyboard.

Go to work and look at everyones phone and decide hahaha.

what's the Evo 3D? is that much better than the current Evo?
my prob is my phone is only lasting me less than 5 minutes now per charge so I am pretty much in desperate need of a new phone

the sprint rep said there's a 30 day exchange on phone if i'm not satisfied but a $35 restocking fee....if I get a new phone now, can I upgrade a few months down the line when Evo 3D or Pre 3 is out?

the Evo 3D is coming out within a month I think. The specs of the Evo 3D are better than the Evo, but you might not need the 3D screen, etc... If you need the phone now, I heard a lot of good things about the Nexus phone.

OK SO
my trusty TP2 (I use that word lightly, but I have had it for over a year) finally needs to be replaced. Button to turn screen on works only when it feels like it, so half the time I have to pull the battery out to restart it anytime I want to do anything.

Currently on the old SERO FF500 plan. I would like to stay there if possible but would be willing to go with the SERO "premium" if necessary. But that's about my limit as I'm a cheap bastard. I've been looking at the Evo and the Arrive as the frontrunners for replacement. With the Evo I'm concerned it doesn't have a hardware keyboard (looked at the Evo Shift, don't like it, hardware keyboard without a separate number row blows) and wondering what the price drop is going to be like once the Evo 3D hits; I don't want to pay big bucks for it now and have it drop $100 in a month, but I can't really wait that long. I've heard mixed reviews of the Nexus S and (this may be a silly reason) I actually like HTC's Sense interface. With the Arrive, as much of a better system as Windows Phone is than WM6.5, doesn't it still lack flash support? I'm also concerned about being able to access things such as Pandora and general support, or lack thereof, for the new OS as opposed to Android, iPhone, BB--I'm not much of an apps guy so I don't care how many titles are in the store, I just want my web experience to be less frustrating than it is currently. Suggestions?

I'm also wondering if anything can be done on the price of the handset. I do have insurance on the TP2 and I've been able to ride the free upgrade train from the Mogul to the TP1 to this phone when hardware has crapped out. Would be nice not to have to pay $200 for the Arrive or Evo.

Sprint isn't getting the Moto Atrix, are we? I'd jump on that in a second if so. Sounds like a kickass phone all around and then I could pick up a laptop dock when the price drops further.

^I too am on Sero500 with a TP2. I'll be going to Sero premium for the evo 3d shortly. If you really want a keyboard I would go with the Shift or the Epic. The Epic is a really nice phone and I actually almost got one before the Evo 3d got announced. I've had keyboard phones for my last 3 so its going to be interesting going to just touch screen, but I'm looking forward to it.

The evo will probably drop to 150, the shift has been under 100 with an upgrade for a while now. If you are stuck on the keyboard

And the Evo3d will blow the Atrix out of the water by the way.

I can tolerate 50/month if that's what it takes to get a better phone--that's still hella cheap for an unlimited data plan. Though I've heard rumors that Sprint is going to cap its data plans across the board later this year.

I'll take a look at the Epic too, but I've heard both good and bad about it. And if there is an issue with the GPS as mentioned somewhere above, that would be a deal-breaker for me. Wish I could wait for the Evo3d, but considering it doesn't even have a hard release date yet, I can't deal with this broke-ass phone until then. Though I suppose I could see about getting a straight warranty/insurance replacement now, stay month-to-month, and jump to sero premium and a new contract when the 3d hits. Hmmm.

quick question:

I notice there are two family data share plans

Everything Data 1500 $130 (1500 minutes)
Everything Plus Data 1600 $110 (1600 minutes) - I'm assuming this is the "new" SERO

do both still allow corporate discounts to be applied on top?
I have heard the Everything Plus does not allow discounting, which means the Everything Data ends up being cheaper for me.

ok so i go to the sprint store ready to upgrade my phone to evo but the price is $99 for existing plans, but FREE for new activation at places like Radio Shack, Best Buy, Amazon, etc...so wth

can i do a $50 ETF and start off scratch as a new plan and still come out on top?

or i hear of this $75 loyalty credit i can ask for but that does renew my 2 year contract?

Call 1.877.775.4886 and talk to someone about your options. Say that you're eligible for an upgrade but you see that new customer pricing is $free vs $99. You can probably ask if there's any way they can make up the difference and get that $75.00 loyalty credit you're talking about.

3rd party outlets can offer that pricing because they're basically rolling some or all of their commission for finding a new customer into offsetting the cost of the handset. They're probably getting the older devices cheaper as well, because the EVO3D is still $199 at all the places you listed.

The loyalty credit shouldn't extend your contract, but it's irrelevant since getting it for $99.00 or buying out your contract and resigning as a new customer both come with 2 year agreements attached.

well I ended up going with a Samsung Epic since the upgrade price was only $45 and no ETF or Activation fee. So now that I have my first Andriod phone, any must have apps or customizations for the Epic?

Thanks!

You can upgrade at a Best Buy, you just need to get the employee to call sprint directly to transfer the phone as they cannot do it though the computer.
