If it's true this team is beefing with DSJ, then fuck them. He has been about as unselfish as possible over the last handful of games (IIRC, he leads the ACC in assists this season) as the best offensive player in the league.

From my perspective, DSJ is the lone bright spot this season and I don't have alot of hope for next season without a new coach.

Smith isn't perfect. He loses focus on defense. He's slow to see plays develop and find the open guy. He takes long, lazy jumpers on the regular. And his surprisingly bad FT shooting late in games has cost us a few times.

That said, he's the best player on the court and the only real threat we have. He's like Michael Jordan on the Space Jam team. You have to run everything through him, or you won't have a chance.

I don't buy that the team has turned on him, but it wouldn't surprise me either. Everybody wants a scapegoat when things go bad, and since Smith is the "leader," it falls on him. Plus I think it's obvious that Gott plays favorites with him.

Whatever. Screw this year. Screw this team. Screw all

Looks like Gott found a new job coaching the Atlanta Falcons! He did an excellent job in the second half last night.

Gott always plays favorites. It's why Rowan plays 35 minutes a game.

Lol Dorn shoots the same percent from 3, Terry nearly the same, and both are easily better overall FG%.

Plus we don't run plays for those two. If you look at NBA style advanced stats, his PER, true shooting, and effective %s are all lower than Dorn/Henderson as well. Sure he is the best FT shooter, but he doesn't get to the line. His FTR is 0.142.

All of that is fine and argue it, but he is still the worst defender on the worst defensive team in ACC history.

dorn has been pretty bad lately. probably hasn't been able to get in a rhythm with inconsistent playing time. but he's shot way less 3s than Mav...hard to compare their percentages.

It just doesn't matter. You can say all you won't about Gott's record, or what our players have done in the past, it is all pointless. This will be the most disappointing season since the Robinson era.

^ Lowe's DFL team with Hickson where GG said "4 losses" was supposed to easily be an ncaaT team. We also didn't beat Duke that year.

Everybody knew that GG was just bumping his chest when he said that. This team has double the talent, MUCH MORE FUCKING DEPTH, and may end up performing worse than they did.

Gott just refuses to play more than a 7 man rotation. It is unreal to have guys like Dorn, Kapita and Johnson just sent on the bench. The GG team had nowhere near that kind of talent and depth.

The season really is that bad. Time to admit that face was right for once.

yes. After so many seasons (including Alabama), you have never seen him play more than 7 guys. I just don't think that he is capable of that type of complexity.

If anything is gonna hurt his draft stock, it's him thinking he's too good to play the 2nd half of the season

this is a total bullshit line of thinking

protecting his future >>>>> playing out the string of a meaningless season

it's not him "thinking he's too good to play the 2nd half of the season

Ben Simmons should have done the same thing last season (he did check out near the end of the season)

Yea players should just quit as soon as the season is out of reach. Any team eliminated from the tourney already should forfeit the rest of their games. Not worth the risk. TBH, if you don't have a chance to get AT LEAST a 9 seed, what even is the point? Very unlikely to win it all from there.

Gott would get major points from me if he started Corchiani Tucker Brickhouse Kirk and Hicks for a game just to send a message that this shit is not okay. But kudos for actually suspending Anya for whatever reason.

No but many teams have multiple players that will play some form of pro ball after their college career. Even if not, injuries can cause permanent disabilities. In some ways DSJ has less to lose. Say he tears his ACL, next year he is still in the NBA. A similar injury might totally close that door for a lesser player.

there are a number of catastrophic injuries he could sustain that would end his career and keep him from getting drafted

as was said during the stupid sitting out of a bowl game debate, it's simply a cost-benefit analysis

On the plus side, DSJ shutting it down would should seal the deal on getting rid of Gott and piss off all the old farts in the expensive seats at the same time which is about the best outcome we could hope for this season.

And there are 100's of other players that could make that same analysis. And again, those player could be more damaged by lesser injuries.

Just look at Cat this year, multiple poorly timed injuries may have cost him a few key chances to make a roster.

With your argument, as soon as you have maximized your ability to get a contract, you should stop playing competitively. You could make the same argument to say DSJ should have skipped the whole season. Heck, Yurt may be wishing he had been declared ineligible.

those 100s of other players aren't risking nearly as much as DSJ is

and my argument hinges on the season being a lot cause. he's showcased his talent against collegiate competition plenty this season.

While we're on this dumb topic, here's my take. Gott should let DSJ skip most games(except the big ones like UNC) and look ahead to playing those on next season's roster. Win win for both.

If you have multiple pros you're probably making the tournament, maybe even fairly easily. Unless your coach is garbage.

Maybe players should just skirt the one-and-done rule by sitting out their entire freshman season...

[Edited on February 8, 2017 at 4:21 PM. Reason : Lebron should've sat out his senior year of HS. After all, he could've gotten injured.]
