I'm going to be a math major, so which would be easier? :/ 4/6/2011 10:54:37 AM |

In spring 05, 202 and 208h were the same section. At some point after, the majors series and the engineering series used didffernt texts, with the introduction of matter and interactions curriculum.
At that stage, the majors series was much rather prefered by the physics profs I knew, based on the text. It was better written and easier to teach.
With the majors series I think you'll get better professor involvement. Who is teaching the section you're looking at?
I recommend talking to Dr stephen reynolds, he'll tell you straight up what his opinion is. He may prefer majors series, but he will give you the information you need to make the decision for yourself. 4/6/2011 6:57:28 PM |

At the moment for PY 201, Huffman's only available. As for 205M I've been eyeing Fortner just because I've taken his astronomy class before.
Really leaning towards 201/202 sequence though, only because the class size will be small, so interaction with the professor would be much easier. 4/6/2011 8:30:35 PM |

you are going to be a math major and you are looking for the easier intro physics course? 4/6/2011 8:40:01 PM |

Is there a difference?
201/202 are for Physics majors and 205/208 for Engineers.
I have an option to choose from either, and I'd much prefer a class with 30 kids as to 100ish because it would be easier to interact with the professor (and hopefully no webassigns). 4/6/2011 8:46:02 PM |

No webassign, go major series. Less difficult test, go engineer series. However, they're all roughly the same content.
I will say, I absolutely love huffman. Was one of my favorite profs, had him for py506. I recommend taking 201 with him. 201 will be about 30 students.
205m is shitty, that's the matter and interactions. There was some push back about that.

^ why would you not want webassign? you can do with them with your friends and KNOW that you have a 100 on the homework assignment 4/19/2011 8:59:10 AM |

lol, you can do problem sets with your friends and know you get a 100, because they typically only assigned the odd numbered problems in the text. and they give partial credit 4/19/2011 6:24:02 PM |
