I see some parallels

Quote :
"Despite Reid's assertion that the two sides largely had agreed on spending cuts, Boehner said partial agreements were not possible.

Boehner recently floated $40 billion in cuts, more than the $33 billion that the negotiators had adopted as a framework."

Quote :
"Republicans want more cuts as part of any deal, bringing the total to perhaps $40 billion, as well as non-spending items that would curtail the reach of the Environmental Protection Agency and cut off federal funding for Planned Parenthood."

"Facebook event: Let's dump trash at Boehner's pad

Washington (CNN) - If the federal government shuts down come Friday, House Speaker John Boehner may be in for quite a mess at his Washington, D.C. residence if some Facebook users have their way.

A Facebook event, entitled "If Boehner shuts down the government I am taking my trash to his house," has popped up and is gaining steam as the shutdown showdown ramps up on Capitol Hill. If the federal government shuts down, one of the District's services that will stop is trash pickup.

"Speaker John Boehner is ready to shut down the government, including District of Columbia city services like trash collection," it says on the page. "Well, if he won't allow us to use OUR TAX DOLLARS to pick it up, maybe we should just BRING IT TO HIM.""

Boehner lives on the block adjacent to my gym. I hope those protests don't pan out because parking is already sort of a bitch in that general area anyway, even for people in the parking zone.

Also there are two big black suburbans full of Capitol Police (same as any Congressional leadership) out front most of the time, and that block is still within their jurisdiction, so probably not the smartest idea.

Well according to CNN's fine reporting on this newsworthy topic, 1,476 people are attending, translating that from facebook to real life, that is at least 10 if not 12 people:

Quote :
"As of 2:30 p.m. EST there are 1,476 attending; 126 are listed as maybe; 156 aren't showing up; and 4,652 are still making up their minds"

No, because if the dems dont have all 60 members voting as a block, the GOP would filibuster it to death....and the dems never had 60 solid votes for anything when they technically did have 60 (indy, conservative dems). The Senate GOP was the party of NO when the dems had 59 or 60 seats. Hell, the dems had to use special rules to get the health care bill through the Senate that were not subject to filibuster.

This wasn't meant to be a political discussion at all - I just <3 this clip

All I'll say is that if the Dems were able to ram rod health care they could've gotten a fucking budget passed

OMG that is the best episode of the Real Housewives of Orange County I've ever seen! They've really added a lot of substance to the script.

"Nobody likes to see...the sausage..." nice.

Every day we spend with the government shutdown is another day that our country can live to see another day. Why don't we just operate on cruise control all the time? I personally burn my trash in a small burn pit next to where my neighbor parks his car. He personally hates it, but it's saving the government money.

Quote :
"Reid, Boehner release joint statement on White House meeting

Washington (CNN) – In a joint statement Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker John Boehner addressed the results of the budget meeting held at the White House Thursday evening, saying, “We have narrowed the issues, however, we have not yet reached an agreement. We will continue to work through the night to attempt to resolve our remaining differences.”"

They said they're getting closer... I guess we'll know in the morning.

My guess, is that the Dems grumble about the bait and switch with the 40b instead of 33b, but go along with it, but in return insist that the GOP take out most of the riders they've attached on the EPA, Planned Parenthood, etc, and tell them to take up their culture wars in separate bills.

Then Boehner goes back to the Tea Party and says we won, we got more than we had originally asked for, and Reid can claim victory too by having killed the riders.

Not too far off, 38.5b, and some riders removed.
